Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

By counting 9 Fridays, your PIR will most likely be on 01/10/2014, but because you are arriving on a Tuesday, it could also be 01/03/2014 if you end up in a Push Division from the TG from the week before. It could also be the week after, 01/17/2014, if the RTC skips a week and does not hav PIR, which happens around the holidays. You will not know until you fill out the form letter and your family cannot make plans until they get the form letter. (See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.)
An E3...that's awesome. Good luck with your leadership efforts. Even if you're not selected for leadership, you can still challenge for at least some of the leadership positions.
STUDY! My son left for boot camp in August, and I'll give you the same advice I gave him: "The more you prepare, the easier boot camp will be." This has proven to be true. Would you rather learn a little every week at home or everything in two or three weeks while sleep deprived in unfamiliar surroundings with strange new duties, people yelling, and pay, graduation, and IT on the line? Prepare and rank up from E1 to E2 in boot camp by passing the first test (stuff in your Start guide) and the first PFA.
:o)
Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC. You may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer you to some good links on there. Best wishes and thank you for your upcoming service to our country!
