OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Please note! Changes to this guide happened in October 2017. Tickets are now issued for all guests, and all guests must have a ticket to enter base. A separate parking pass is no longer needed to drive on to base for parking.

Please see changes to attending PIR in the PAGES column. The PAGES are located under the member icons on the right side.

Candy message

I made this for my son and he loved it. I just walked through the Dollar Tree and started throwing candy in my cart. It was fun thinking of how to put all the candy together and make it turn into a love note.

Miss Him Already

Comment by jacksmom17 just nowDelete CommentI feel like crying, but I guess I should wait until my son actually leaves. He doesn't leave until October 5 and I already miss him. I've been reading about what to do the month before my FS leaves, and I've been doing a lot of deep breaths. Just yesterday I was bringing my baby home from the adoption…See More

Good morning - I saw your note in main chat, but you had signed out. Here is my reply -

  • Jacksmom17 - Have you watched the BC videos?

  • I did not have those when my son was in BC but my husband found a timeline for me. It did not follow closely but it helped give me something to think about and have an idea that my prayers for him to get through those specifics were helping him.

Jacksmom17 - I am sorry I didn't see your msg in the main chat sooner. Did you read this post of B'sNukeMom?  https://navyformoms.ning.com/forum/topics/recruit-leaving-for-boot-camp-during-covid

Remind your son that he can do this. There is a lot of down time during the ROM - restriction of movement - quarantine time. There might be set backs in the training time but a lot of recruits have been going through this also, and they make it through. There might be a lot of yelling but ship shape himself and encourage him to help his shipmates as well. Remind him to call you from the airport before he meets up with the bus to transport him.

Be sure to come post in the main BC Mom group - you will be among friends there. - Be sure to scroll all the way down past the discussions to the comment section. If viewing this site on a mobile device, be sure to put into desktop mode.

Hi Jacksmom17 - I was just getting ready to sign off when I received the message that you had joined the BC Moms group - I just wanted to welcome you and encourage you to come over to our main page for the group, scroll down towards the bottom to where the comment wall is there and introduce yourself. We have several "veteran" moms on there who will answer questions and offer encouragement. And the others are either there because their loved one is in BC or has been through it recently.

I also saw your comment about your son going to Nuke School. The other group to join is linked in your comments below. My son left for BC three years ago, a month after he graduated from High School. He went through the Nuke pipeline and has been out in the fleet for over a year now. Do not hesitate to post and ask questions in either group.

Welcome to NAVYforMoms.com!

Head to “Settings” on the main page right away to add a profile image (no last names visible, please) and complete your Profile. Then - and this is important! - read these Community Guidelines and this Operations Security (OPSEC) Checklist, for the safety and privacy of all our Sailors.

Then jump right in!  Browse around the site and check out the groups and the information in their Discussion Forums.

Join this group for boot camp moms, where you'll also find a group for your Pass in Review (graduation) date; and this one for PIR Reference Information.

Get a head start during boot camp by joining groups for, and learning about, your Sailor's occupational specialty and "A" School; and later your Sailor's duty station and/or Navy ship and homeport. You can also join groups for your own state, region or home town and interests from getting ready for deployment to care package ideas!

Please say Hi when you join a group, and feel free to ask any and all questions - everyone was new once, and there is no "dumb" question.

This site was created by the U.S. Navy just for you, and we look forward to getting to know you and your Sailor.

Welcome to the NAVY family - we're so glad you're here!!
