Hello NavyMomofJM...my son is currently assigned to the USS Bonhomme Richard.  It is currently in drydock in San Diego undergoing maintenance and refitting for a new aircraft.  My son has been there since March of this year and really loves it!  So you were on the ship when it was commissioned?

Hello, looking at the post it seems it has been awhile since anyone has posted. When looking through groups and saw there were command groups. So, I just wanted to see if the USS Bonhomme Richard LHD 6 had one and they do!! My husband and I were original or Plankowners of this ship. It is always so wonderful to see and hear about it. Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Hi OKCSUZIEQ, my son will be leaving Sasebo in July after 3 long years there. His deployments (floats) will get easier after the first one because he will then know what to expect. Food items, home newspapers, magazines are just a few ideas altho your son can probably tell you what he would like. I know food was tough to get at times when all the Marines were on board. He may also work nights, sleep days. Your son should get you the address as soon as he knows. Not sure of timing. If he has access, you can send emails or we use Messenger. When in port we Skype often so we can see him, his wife and little one. Not the same as in person but it's pretty good.

Good morning all! Are any of you going to visit your sailors for the holidays?

Momship12, PM me.  My son was 3 years in Sasebo, married a girl from the town with 1000 relatives.  There is so much to do and see around the area.  They do not need a car.  There are cars to rent or buy there.

Hello! My son is on this ship and they are currently underway...it seems like no one ever gets on here. How many of you have traveled to Sasebo? We are going in December and are looking for things to do...any ideas?
