sdred, yes that is a very short, scripted call but it let's you know they're there and you get to hear their voice.  My daughter called my husbands cell at 2:am so I didn't get to talk to her but could hear her voice.

We're here for you!  We can be quiet, but you just need to reach out and we reach back!

Morning all,  Got the call late last night that my daughter arrived in bootcamp and was safe.  Very short call, but so happy to hear her voice.  It was a very long day.  So great I have somewhere to go for guidance and freak outs.

Valerie,

B'sNukeMom gave excellent advice!!  Email is the best way to communicate but sometimes she may not have access to the computers.  My son was deployed many times and it was a kind of hit or miss when it came to emails.  Also, he had a tablet with him and when he had good internet we could skype!!!  That was the best. And certainly get on the ombudsman list so you get notices and newsletters. Good luck to your son!!!!

Valerie - You may also want to join USS Eisenhower- IKE FamilyCARRIER Families!, and/or Norfolk Sailors - Family & Friends. (Click on the hyper link.)

Hi Valerie - hopefully you have his email address and he has you on the approved list with the ships Ombudsman so you can get the ship newsletters.  The 'WhatsApp" is a good app for both of you to use.  He just needs to have wifi to use it.  My son and I used the App and it's easy to use.

Here's the link to the WhatsApp:

Hello, my son is preparing for deployment on the USS Eisenhower, what is the best way to keep in touch with him?

Anna, he is in the Naval Aircrew Candidate School House.  My daughter's friend from high school just graduated from the school and she is a Marine.

Hi Mamabear! I still check in here from time to time. It was such a help when Molly was in BC. I would have enjoyed meeting in Jax. Who knows where she'll go next?? We might meet up yet. :) Looking forward to going out there and seeing where she is. She is really in her element there, working in the hospital.
