Wow, can't believe my post was so long I had to break it up in two!!! That's what I get for being absent for so long!!! Sorry for the book!!!
Momof3,
This virus is making life much more challenging for our sailors. My daughter has not been able to leave Florida since late February. It has really messed up her job because she would travel quite a bit teaching Aviation Safety to squadrons around the world. She wanted to vacation to Oklahoma back in May, where she was stationed last and has very close friends (and her sister) still there, but it was denied. She is hoping that by Christmas she will be allowed to travel then. Keeping fingers crossed. And I hope you get to see your girl again soon!!!!
Oleander,
Those goodbys are still difficult no matter how long they have been in!!! Can you tell me again what kind of training she will be having in Florida??? It would be so cool if she got to meet with my Jennifer.
JayDee,
Thank you so much for all your support to our new Moms. You and Oleander always step up to cover for me and I want both of you to know how much I appreciate you!!!!
That's all for now Ladies . . . .
Ladies,
I'm so sorry I've been absent for so long. It's been a little more difficult transitioning from constant life on the road to becoming a resident in apartment life again!!!! I may have lived in a much smaller domicile of a 40ft fifth wheel trailer but everything was either built in or had a place to go. I actually feel that my trailer had much more storage space than my apartment has. And of course our "basement" of the trailer had lots of stacking bins in there so everything had a place and was out of sight. Now I have all these bins filled with "stuff" and no place to hide them!!!!! We recently got all the extra stuff we had in storage for the past 6 years and moved that in. Now what do I do with all this?!?!?! And I'm still sleeping on the floor because this virus has created such a backlog of furniture that we still haven't had delivery of our bed we ordered the beginning of July. They are now saying September 23rd!!!!! Anyways - we keep plugging along!!
I'm so glad to see several new Moms on here and even more happy to see all the support you are getting from our Moms. Just know that you are not alone, there is always a place for you to come to share with others!! I don't think I would have made it through some really difficult times without the support of other Moms on this website so I am honored to have a place for Moms who have daughters going off to serve our country!!!
For Shoosh and VillageMum,
Remember to always be your daughter’s safe haven. They may have moments when they need to call or write and tell you all about the problems they are facing whether in boot camp, A school, or their duty station. Know that they need someone to vent to and maybe get advice, but in the end, they will figure it out on their own, and they will be stronger for it. Keep encouraging them and give them confidence. Then when they are done you go and cry and punch pillows, and come here to vent to us!!!!!! Sometimes we hang on to their problems far longer than they do!!! But it's because we are loving Moms and that's what Moms do!!!!
VillageMum,
What will your daughter be doing after bootcamp??
Shoosh,
OS will always be a rating close to my heart. 100 years ago when I served I was able to have On The Job training to become an OS and was the second woman to be rated OS. Uniform shops didn't even have the rating badge for a woman's uniform at the time and I had to hand embroider my own!!!!
Rebecca 1957,
I also have twin daughters and both have served. One was enlisted right out of high school and the other went to college first and then became an officer. She is still active, her twin did her time and got out to go to college using her GI Bill.
LadyBluefire,
I did not know you had so many kids serving!!! I thought having 3 was hard!! I do find I hear from my girls much more than I hear from my boys!!! I think that's just the nature of daughters vs sons!!!!
I'm trying to get my laptop up and running because I cannot see anything on my phone it's so tiny that I can't read anything so hopefully I'll get it going this week so I can become involved and leave messages.
Shoosh - I had my 3rd SR leave me a VM and sometimes it was harder hearing it than not. My 4th one, I asked him and he forgot.
As for my daughter (SR#1) - she calls us several times a week, SR #2 only when his ship is going on a fast cruise or underway, lol. So while this dark time is hard on these Navy allergies once at A school the sky opens and birds start chirping.
SR#3 should be PIR this week and SR#4 is at Ft MCCoy and will turn 18 before he PIRs.
Well said Oleander.
Holding you in my Prayers. HUGS
NavyMom Strong
I know exactly how you feel! My twin girls BOTH left this month, waiting to hear something.
Struggling today ladies!! I feel like I've been doing ok, but today feels different. I think it's starting to sink in. I had her leave me a voicemail before she left but I haven't listened to it yet. Miss her so much.
Shoosh isn't it wonderful to hear their voice? My girl called at 2 am, her dad picked up and it was so fast that I never spoke to her. It's a very scripted call and they are rushed through it. It was probably more that in her voice. She will do great! Hang in there momma!
My girl left yesterday for BC. She was able to call me as soon as she landed (thanks for that tip) and we chatted briefly and then she called her dad. The scripted call came at 8:45pm, earlier than I had thought. I honestly didn't hear all she said as I was telling her that I loved her and to be strong. I did hear "arrived safely, quarantine 2 weeks, call again soon." She sounded ok, maybe a bit scared.
Not sure how I will get through this, but I know I will. I didn't think about how many little things will set me off...like making a grocery list!!! Trying to stay busy and not think too much.
VillageMum how are you holding up?
Thankful for all of you.
I know that it feels so difficult and sometimes unbearable when they leave for BC but since we are on the other side of that just know that it is going to go by so fast.. Remember this is their journey and new adventure.. We thought that the worst was over but now our daughter has been stuck in Spain and is unable to take any leave so it will be probably a year and a half by the times we get to see her again.. We saw her for a couple weeks last November but now they are making everyone stay in place.. it is soooo hard!! We miss her so much and we never thought it would ever be this long in between visits. We do talk on the phone/snapchat everyday which is great but its not the same.. Just don't have any expectations... they belong to the Navy now. My daughter reminds me of that all the time.. She loves her job which makes it easier..Hang in there!! She too is our Oldest and I have 2 boys but she is the only one who wants to serve..we didn't expect it at all when she told us.. She left for BC at 19.
