Hello everyone!
I'm so glad I finally found this network! My son just finished bootcamp and arrived in Charleston Friday night. So far I have been happy to hear his voice 2 days in a row. But he'll be busy this week before he starts school.
Take care all who have loved ones in boot camp, it will seem like a long time but they will be proud of their accomplishment and happy to hear from you when they get that first chance. We only got one call from him when he arrived and we missed it, after that we just received one letter but he received three of ours.
Here's a tip, I printed envelopes with his mailing address and gave them to his grandmothers plus I kept them handy for us, it's easier to send him letters when the envelopes are already printed.
Take care!
Carmen
Thank you Carmen,
My son leaves today. So many emotions. Thanks for the tip. How long did it take for you to get his address?
Warmly,
Sheila
Good morning all,
I apologize for the late response, I hope all is well with everyone and their families. My son left to bootcamp on July 15th and we received a letter from the Recruit Training Command on August 12th it was postmarked August 7th. This letter had general information regarding contact information and graduation information. Unfortunately, due to COVID19 we weren't able to attend the graduation ceremony. We received his first personal letter on August 18th and it was postmarked August 14th, his letter was dated Aug. 11th. Just to give you all an idea of how slow the mail is, that's why I pre-printed his address on envelopes to avoid delays. He received three of our letters before he left bootcamp.
I know it seems like an eternity, but it does go by quickly.
Best wishes,
Carmen
Hi ladies! My son left for boot camp on September 30 and I still haven’t heard anything from him. Is this normal? When should I expect a letter letting me know what division he is in?
Hi BlueBunny,
It has been taking about 4 - 5 weeks before most of the families are receiving their Form Letter with the mailing address. I saw that you had joined the BC Mom group but I haven't had a chance to post a welcome to you. Be sure to go to the main page of the BC Mom group, scroll down past the discussions and go to the comment wall area and introduce yourself. A lot more of our members comment in that area.
Prior to the ROM it use to take 2 - 3 weeks for us to get our letters, now you have the extra 2 weeks of silence with the quarantine. I am sorry.
Hi BlueBunny,
Just like Chipmunk said, the sailors are in quarantine for the first two weeks before there bootcamp begins. Like I mentioned in my post it took about four weeks before we received the Form letter with his mailing address and then we received a personal letter from him about a week later. Hopefully, you will be receiving something in the mail soon.
