For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Little Nervous, Big Proud

My oldest son has been considering joining up since he graduated high school in June, 2020. After a couple years of college, he finally made up his mind. Last week, he took a ride with his recruiter down to MEPS San Diego and took the Oath of Enlistment. He is entering the nuclear program and will report for basic on November 23!

I’m having so many varying emotions about all of it. My biggest feeling is a sense of pride in what a great, kind, smart, altruistic, diligent man he is becoming. My secondary emotions are a mix of anxiety over the rigorous schooling he will endure over the next two years, and sadness over how much we are going to miss him. He has four younger brothers who look up to him like he’s their hero. His dad/my husband was a sailor in the 90s so we kind of know what to expect. I know it’s going to hit us all pretty hard.

I find myself furiously researching what to expect in basic, how Nuke school is run, winter weather in Chicago, the community around South Carolina, and all of the minute details I’m afraid we’ll miss. We have just shy of three months, but I know it’s going to fly by. Some of my phrenetic research is paying off: I just learned that they can bring their own running shoes to basic! So we’re going to use this holiday weekend to go shoe shopping and find the best, most comfortable shoes for him to start breaking in during his daily workouts. I think this is making me feel like I have a little bit of control over a situation that actually has not much to do about me.

My verse for this season: Joshua 1:9 - “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

You should consider joining both of these groups. When you join the groups, be sure to scroll down past the main information, past the discussions on that group page and then you will come to a comment wall area on each group page. That is the best place to post your questions, introduce yourself and will be more likely to have more people reply to your responses in both of those groups.

Once you figure out joining both of these groups, I will then point you in the direction of some information that I have shared on both of those groups about information that relates to your son. - Also, there is another group on this site as well that you might be interested in -

✟CHRISTIAN NAVY MOMS - Navy For Moms (ning.com) - This group is a private group on this site and also requires you to request to join and then wait to be approved. Sometimes it takes a day or two if the moderator is busy with other family things and not able to be online much.

Be sure to double check and make sure if you are getting running shoes that they meet the proper requirements. There are some they will not allow.

Also, since he will be reporting to BC right before the Holidays, be sure to have your celebrations with him before you leave as he will most likely be in BC through both Thanksgiving and Christmas and not there long enough to be one of the SR (seaman recruits) that gets to be checked out for a holiday visit or special meal.

BNMHs (Big Navy Mom Hugs)!! And yes, make sure he can more than adequately pass his run, and do his planks, push ups and float, + swim. Have him ask his recruiter for the requirements.

My son has been in 5 years and is currently in the fleet. - I see you already joined the Nuke Moms, be sure to join the BC Mom group.

My son has been almost 3 years now, he started off in the Nuke program and made it through 3/4 of Power School but was given another rate as Aviation Electronic Tech which he loves much better. I also lean on the Lord totally through this journey and am so thankful that He is guiding my son. Bless you and your son through this rollercoaster of emotions.

It's completely different when it's your kid!! The good news is that odds are decent that he can be stationed in San Diego so he could be back home sooner!!
Where in SD are you? I lived in Santee. (We joke that we vacationed in SD and brought back 3 amazing souvenirs!!!) Welcome to this Wild Ride that is the Navy!!!
