I am to be sending my son an email of questions for him to ask his staff advisor - but I will ask here as well. He is in GC and I just found out this morning that Prototype Graduation is at the Yorktown. Is an invitation sent out the family, like after Power School? Is there a limited number of guests? Do we have to buy a ticket to get on the Yorktown? What time is graduation? or should I say what time do we need to be there? Hopefully a recent attendee will be able to reply. Thanks!!

Proud Momma, Thanks for sharing!!

You are welcome. My pleasure :)

Thank you for the questions and answers. My grandson will graduate power school and I wanted to attend. He said it would not be much. Are all prototype graduations on ships?

I LOVED Power School Graduation!! And Prototype Graduation. A School Graduations was the one that 'wasn't much.  Here is a picture from our Sailor's Power School Graduation . .. . (He even got the Admiral to sign his Graduating Class picture!!)

Kuhl,

As for Power School graduation, or any of them, it is just a formality and they mostly walk across the stage, get a certificate and you take pictures. There are short speeches (I found better than any graduation ceremony I have been too) and some other awards given out as well. Most PS graduations are held outside on NNPTC and everyone is together. There was rain at my son's graduation in late Oct 2018 so it was held inside and the graduates were divided into two ceremonies as is with Prototype.

I say this because sometimes I think our sailors don't want their family going to extra expense or trouble to show up for something that is not going to be all that spectacular. However, I think the graduation ceremonies are for us as well as for them. I just found out from my son this Christmas, that it is likely, I will never see him in his Dress Blues and maybe never see him again in his Dress Whites, because all of the ceremonies and such are done until he leaves maybe. So, being able to go to BC PIR, A school, PS, and Prototype graduation have all been milestones that for myself, I am glad I was able to attend. I also know that even though he did not want to be a burden and we have spent considerable money to make those trips - once flying four of us out - he appreciated us being there every time for him. I am sure your grandson would appreciate you being there to see him, even if he does not think it is that big of a deal.

As for Prototype graduation - There is only one ship that it is held on and that is the USS Yorktown, which is permanently docked at Patriot's Point, SC. (Prototype training is no longer held in Ballston Spa, NY.) Unless notified otherwise, I am sure that the graduations will continue to be held there each time.

TRACY - Our son’s Prototype graduation is set for May 29, 2020. Was pushed back a week but they gave them a week off at Christmas so he got to come home for a few days. We are also on the ship for the ceremony. I heard there are two.... wonder if we’ll be at the same one?!

There is no invitation, anyone can go and you do not need to pay. Graduation is in the morning and they find out that week what time their group graduates.

Lancertrackmom - Thank you for keeping us up to date on Prototype graduation!
