For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

I went back to find this from Sue J/Purple Pig, she said: "Gate pass, parking pass....same thing. We refer to it as the parking pass." She knows for sure, she works there.

What a relief about your SUV! I am going to go to the recruiters office today and see if they can help me get the parking permit and gate passes printed! The password is not working! Also today will be haircuts for my three other kids and maybe some back to school shopping.

Is the password the same for the gate pass? I can't get the password to work for gate pass!
My son had his interview today, to try to change jobs. I wonder how it went. Yes, time is going by very fast! I feel like I have so much to do! Has anyone driven to the base from downtown Chicago? I wonder how much time to allow?

Just wanted to give everyone a "heads up" about glitter graphics. While I was looking around on there, a mailicious program attached itself, downloaded on my computer and basically crashed it. McAfee was not able to remove it.

I posted this comment on the boot camp mom's group, but thought I would post it for your group as well:
We are just getting back from my son's PIR this past Friday, Aug. 7th. The ceremony was awesome and I"m still swelling with pride. Even though the ceremony was so worth it, I would caution all of you that are gearing up for graduation trips to be prepared for long traffic delays because there's lots of road construction going on.
We took our hotel's shuttle to PIR and even though our hotel was just 4.5 miles from the entrance to the base, it took us almost 1.5 hours to get there! The traffic was horrible! The street leading to the base is 3 lanes wide, but due to construction just before the entrance, it goes to 1 lane. The merging of those lanes with over 800 graduates' families, well, you can picture the bottleneck!
Our hotel shuttle left at 6am and we arrived at the base entrance at 7:25. Then we had to stand in another long line to have our IDs checked along with all the others that were walking in. We got to the ceremony hall at 7:55. My son's wife and her parents stayed at the Navy Lodge and drove to the base and parked there with the parking pass she got in the graduation packet. They left the lodge at 6:20 and were in their seats in the hall at 6:45. So if you are lucky enough to be staying at the Navy Lodge and have a parking pass, I would say that would be the way to go!
If you are planning to try to park at the METRA station beside the entrance to the base, I would caution you about that because there's not many spaces for parking and they fill up fast. We tried parking there on Saturday morning to take the train into Chicago, but there wrere no spaces empty. We were surprised to see so few spaces for parking there, especailly since it's so near the base. We had to drive several miles on down to the next station and park there.
I don't want to discourage anyone about the PIR because it was sooooo worth all the traffic delays, and waiting in lines. But I just wanted everyone to be prepared for the delays.
