Not sure if I saw this on here before, but my son just received a promotion and he said he had his crow sewed on his clothing. What is this crow and what does it look like?

Thanks for the info.  Good attitude about your sons decision.  Its better to look on the bright side of things and our support is all they need in the end.

dawn, I hear you on the "typical teenage crap", my son was always a good kid but didn't apply himself in school. The only thing he cared enough about to excel was hockey, at least he learned to suck it up through the tough times and be a team player. The Navy accomplishes amazing things in bootcamp. They took a "diamond in the rough" and made him shine! It sounds like your son is on the right path, best of luck!

kathy,  Thanks!  I've already put him on notice . . . if he hears anything about a Tiger Cruise, he better do whatever he needs to do to get me on! I'm keeping vacation time available and I will be wherever I need to be when (if) the time comes.

Ken, Thanks for the info....my son has always been a pretty good student (excelling in Math and Science), he could have done better had he pushed himself harder....  He's a good boy too except for typical teenage crap (a little back talk, pushing the limits kind of stuff) this senior year has been our only difficult time with him being 18 and the attitude change.... I am looking forward to the navy teaching him serious self discipline!  I also look forward to him gaining some self respect and the  camaraderie  that he longs for.  I think overall this is the best choice for him.  As long as he gets his college degree as he has promised us he will.  He wants to apply to STA-21.  He really seems interested in the OS job although he is not a computer geek, but his brain thrives on the analytical and problem solving type things which this job seems to offer.  i am very proud of him and his decision to join.  he did it all on his own and it's the first step toward him taking charge of his future

dawnlewis, Your son is where my son was 2 years ago. He signed his contract during the spring of his senior year, meet weekly with his recruiter at DEP meetings and left for bootcamp last December. His PIR was Feb. 2011, he attended A-school at Great Lakes and was assigned to the USS ANZIO in May. He really likes being an OS. He's a great kid who didn't apply himself well in high school BUT he's dove into being an OS better than anything in his life so far. He spends extra time in "combat" learning as much as he can and getting new qualifications. As a side note, he's stood watch on deck as they went through the Strait of Gibraltar, had liberty in the Ukraine, Bulgaria, Georgia, Djibouti and the Seychelles. He's truly "seeing the world". He's saved enough for a good down-payment on a car. He's grown up! I can't wait to see him when his ship returns to Norfolk in December!   Best of luck to your son!!!

Cheryle-He is scheduled to finish Oct. 11 which I believe is about 8 1/2 weeks long.  The Sennis is at the other port in WA.  I don't know how far apart the ports are.

I'm so upset because my son never received my birthday card with his gift cards.
