For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

My son says for travel, he does not need a passport to come home, just carry a copy of his leave, or current orders. However, he does need to get one for travel. He has a lot of opportunity to travel while in Japan! My son also suggests that he go the the passport office in PSD. He needs to call a head to see what he needs, but tell hime to get the SOFA stamp. That will enable him to go thru the Nationals line at airports. (My son thinks he will just need orders, but he can call to check.) Tell him to learn as much Japanese as poss. I believe they have classes when they arrive, but the more he knows, the better he'll be able to travel, get around, eat... My son really enjoyed seeing most of Japan over his time there. He went to the various festivals around the country. Tell hime to get tix to the Olympics if he still can!

I also suggest you join the Japan Mom group here. More active, and very, very supportive.

I am wondering if he needs a passport for this? We are hearing mixed information. Because of COVID the only place open is the US Embassy in Tokyo. If he doesn't need one at this time when he gets home I will make sure he starts the process for a new one.

Comment by Chris, Forever Ray's Proud Mom on September 11, 2020 at 11:53pm: Hey WashingtonMom-My son just left Yokosuka. The zip I had for his work on base was 96349. I think takes about 3 weeks (or used to) to arrive. He should have the correct way to address the box. Email him to verify.

I am trying to send my son an Amazon care package. He is on the Yokosuka base. Amazon is asking for a zip code? Do any of you know how I should address his care package? Also, how long does it take to get to him?
