Hi All!
To begin, I’d like to thank you for taking the time to read this and helping to ease some of my concerns. My fiancé left for boot camp December 7th and is going in the 6 year nuke program. I thought I was clear on how we would handle our situation by getting married after he finishes school, but before he leaves for active duty. But now the more I read the more confused I get. Here are my questions.
1. He entered boot camp as an E3, what are the time constraints, restrictions or procedures for marriage once he finishes boot camp? If I could, I’d like to marry him on his graduation day, but I don’t think that’s an option LOL
2. I live in California, and am not planning on moving to his base during A school immediately, but I’d like to know what our options would be, should I choose to. Anyone recently go through the moving onto base situation? The only reason I ask “recently” is I’ve been hearing conflicting stories about either the Navy only assisting with moving costs if you were married prior to boot camp or they won’t assist at all because of the economy and want to find out the most up to date info.
3. If I was able to move to base housing during his A school would he be able to share the same house with me?
4. When he is eventually shipped overseas, how difficult is it for me to go with him and live on base?
5. Can you have pets while living on base?
Okay, that’s all for now. Let me know if you have any answers/suggestions/advise for me.
Jess

Hey :) My husband is in the Nuke program also. We got married October 9, 2010. He graduated bootcamp July 23. I'll try to answer your questions as best I can!
1. From what I've heard, it isn't against the rules to get married graduation weekend. From everything I've read it's "frowned upon" which I'm not really sure what that means. My husband waited until he got to Charleston and talked to his commanding officer about it, and he gave him the ok. There weren't any time constraints or restrictions. We weren't required to go through marriage counseling.
2. We moved into a house on base about 2 weeks after we got married. After we moved, we did get about $500 as compensation for the move. But a friend of mine that moved here in February said that her and her husband got money up front for the move as well as money afterwards. If you did decide to move there, I would tell him to definitely go to the housing office and talk to someone about what the options are. My husband also had the option to come home for a week and help me with the move, but we didn't want him to have to move back a class so we decided against it.
3. Once you're married he would be able to live with you. They're only required to live on base during A-School, but if you get married then he would be allowed to move before the end of A-School.
4. If he gets stationed overseas you'll be able to move with him. The Navy would pay for that and you could have them pack up everything for you and move it if you wanted.
5. You're allowed to have 2 pets on base. Unless it's like fish or something then I'm sure it doesn't matter haha.
I hope this helped! :) Let me know if you have any more questions!
I'm not sure on the leave part of that! but for the schooling there is a program called Mycaa i think that has grants for spouses tuition. when i move i'll be looking into that!
we ended up getting married "on paper" before our wedding day just to make things easier!
Hey Jess
im going through the same thing. My Fiancee is also a Nuke. I have talked to a bunch of other Nuke wives and most of them have told me that if i want to have a "real" wedding (not at JOP or a court house) to do it in between nuke school and prototype school. They usually get a break in between the 2 so that is when we will be getting married. We were originally going to wait until he was finished with all of the schools but if we do that then i wont be on his paperwork for when he is stationed somewhere. While he does his last school i will stay in cali (where i live) to do schooling. So there for our choice made most scene for us! Hope i answered this in time to help! And if you need anything message me. Like i said my guy is a Nuke too so we can help each other out!
