Hi Debra11 -

My 19 year old son left for boot camp on December 8th and will be doing electronics on submarines also. I also have an older son who is in the Navy and currently stationed in San Diego. My husband is in the Air Force . If it's any consolation to you, both of my guys that have been through it say boot camp is tough, but when it is all said and done, they enjoyed it and got a lot out of it. You wont believe how proud your son will be of himself and how proud you will be when you see him at the PIR ceremony. Although they  are starting boot camp at different times, there's a good chance our son's paths will cross in Groton at sub school. Tell your son Good Luck and I will pass on the advice my oldest gave my youngest before he left for boot camp- "Don't volunteer for anything ; try to get laundry duty as your boot camp job ; get a bottom bunk if possible" When my oldest was at his A school after boot camp, they did a surprise wake up call for something in the middle of the night and he was still 1/2 asleep and rolled out of his top bunk. Knocked his two front teeth loose and chipped another. He gives that bunk advice to everyone now :)
