Many people do not realize this, but when you get a drivers license in the state you are moving to on orders, you may be changing your legal residency. There may be implications in areas of tax,…Continue
My husband has just left for bootcamp. I'm on N4M to learn everything I can. He graduates in July and then goes to A-school to be an EN. I'm especially interested right now to know what to expect with our first move. We have 2 children, an 8 year old boy and a 5 month old girl. We own a house in our hometown that we will be renting to my best friend while we're away, which could be a while since my hubby wants to make the Navy a career.

Here is a tip for all of you who would like to send your sailor a little something sweet from home but don't want it to spoil before it gets to the destination. I have tested this recipe and a few different containers and will include my notes. Sadly, I won't send it to my sailor because he doesn't care for cake.
What you need:
1 box of angel food cake mix
1 box of other cake mix, any flavor.
1 large container to send the mix in
1 measuring spoon…

My husband finished bootcamp and we went to his graduation 7/20/12. It is an amazing, amazing thing. But, I thought I would hop over to the groups who have Sailors graduating and give you a tip about driving to the RTC gate.
You will most likely be coming from Buckley Rd and will have to make a right turn into RTC. If this is the case, drive past. Yes, I know, scary, but drive past the gate. You will…

We just did our first Navy PCS. We moved from Rockford, IL to San Diego, CA. I wanted to write it all down in hopes that others about to PCS get all the info they can. I'll start with general information about the move and entitlements and incentive. At the bottom, I will give our specific situations with actual numbers and also some info on getting into military housing, if that is what you choose to do. First, here are the definitions:
HHG - Household goods
PPO -…

Also- with your husband's rank...is he on "Small Boy Ships"?
Thanks! I am trying to get information for after A School. Did he have to remain at gL until he got his orders? If so, how long did it take? Was he allowed leave to go home before reporting? Also- Do you know anyone who has a Sailor that has the rank of GSE?
thanks for the add finally figuring this site out slowly :-)
Congrats on your new sailor. I hope that A school goes well for him! Once he has been assigned his ship, you can join the FRG (Family Readiness Group for his ship) and become active in this organization. I think I read where you are a SAHM...Stay active with your children. They will miss him as much as you do! Volunteer at a (their) school. Most all of his deployments will be 6-9 months then home again for a couple of months, with watch standing, then back to sea. So you will have some time with him, just not 24/7, 365 days a year, but there are benefits. My best to you and Yours!
I would love the e-mail! Thank you very much, I will look into Gateway!
Thank you so much for getting that for me. I was so sad when I read that but it makes sense that not everyone has family and I would love to make some new ones to add to mine. I will do this on my lunchbreak today. This is going to be great!!
Be sure and check out the group "Wives, Fiances & Girlfriends" It's usually active enough to be on first page of "all groups."
