Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

PIR (PASS IN REVIEW, ie GRADUATION from Boot Camp) GROUPS
Within a week after your recruit /arrives at Great Lakes, you'll get THE BOX containing his old clothes and other personal items (look for his cell phone in his shoes). Next will be the all important FORM LETTER which will have his/her expected graduation date. We have a stellar group of mentors who will take you from beginning to end (entire Boot Camp & PIR period): ellen0502 (who creates most of the groups), FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW, diannep, and CatMom509. You will be in excellent hands.

If your Recruit just arrived chances are the group for your PIR has not been formed yet. You should join the Boot Camp Moms group & the subgroup for the month of your recruit's departure. Again, we have another group of mentors who will take you through the preparation phase.You'll get a check list of things to do the month before boot camp. You'll learn Navy acronyms and terminology. You'll find out what will take place at MEPS. Llemonelephant will be there to guide you through and point you in the right direction.

Keep this letter in a safe place and/or scan and save on your hard disk as a backup. The FORM LETTER contains four important items.
GOING TO PIR (GRADUATION).
You will have many questions regarding PIR. Where to stay? When to get airline tickets? What to do around Great Lakes? How to order photos, dvds? How do I sign up for the multiple meet and greets for parents? What should I wear? Join this group - PIR REFERENCE INFORMATION GROUP (clickable link). Proud....the RTC hasn't updated the website yet...BUT here is the link to the 4/1 PIR group that has formed. http://www.navyformoms.com/group/pir40111 some of them have gotten their form letter so they know the date is right. But, many may be PIR 4/8 and that group has not been formed yet.
Yes, definitely join the 4/1 group and hang out till you get the form letter or RTC updates the website.
The group probably hasn't been formed yet. Don't be shy. Once you get the letter with the projected PIR date, feel free to form a group. Take a look at the way others have done it by looking at the previous PIR groups. You can use the one that you like as a template.
You should also check out the PIR Reference group - full of good information. In addition, we have compile some videos, powerpoint presentations and other links, tips for you. Click on the below link.
The reason to avoid having a separate group for you division outside of the main PIR group is that people tend to forget to check both groups, information has to be duplicated. This way, you can check in your PIR group - get all the good stuff that applies to everyone, then check the discussion pertaining to your division and talk to your buds.
