For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Comment by MomofJoseph 20 hours ago: Hi, Karen! Congrats to your son for starting A School!!! My son was in Charleston for 2 Christmases - 2021 and 2022. Each time there was a 2-week break. They were able to request whether they wanted the week that included Christmas or the week that included New Years (but with no guarantee that they would get their request). He always requests New Years so that Sailors with kids could spend Christmas with their children. (He has been able to do that at his current port also.)

Like B'sNukeMoM said - there's no guarantee, but in our case, we have been able to see our son around Christmas every year so far. HALLLELUJAH!

Comment by Gwen yesterday: Karen, congratulations to your son on graduating BC, hope you got to spend some time together. My son is halfway through Power School and last year when he was in A School they did get time off over Christmas. So hopefully that will be the same for this year. They are busy all day with class and study after dinner. I usually get calls from my son right before he heads to bed. They will have more free time on the weekends.

Selfish question - do you know if they get leave during the Christmas holidays? Or is it case by case?

Comment by Seahawks12 yesterday: Karen - A school will be endless studies and meeting lots of good friends. You will be able to talk to him more but he will be studying and testing weekly and sometimes 2 times a week. I always waited for my son to call me because I knew how busy he was. He called weekly. He really liked A school and graduated Prototype May 2026. Glad you are here and everyone will be able to help with any questions! Big Navy Mom hugs!
