OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Has anyone else noticed a problem with messages/mail?  I have been trying to reply and message and seems like it is not allowing me to?

I haven't had any problems although I have read a few comments on this site from various members who have had some issues lately.

1. Be sure you and your recipient (s) are friends. The N4M private message system only works if the parties are "friends" with each other. Ironically enough, you can post a comment (as a response) to another's discussion without being friends with the person who created the discussion. Just the way the NING platform was set up.

2. Occasionally, people "block" messages from someone by mistake. Let's say you and I are friends but I don't want to receive any messages from you any longer, I could click on your profile and click "Block Messages" - if you send me a message, I wouldn't get it.

3. If you are on CHAT, then decide to go to another part of the N4M site (say the GROUPS or FORUM) but you don't disconnect from CHAT first, the system slows down considerably because each time some in CHAT post a comment, it's updated on your CHAT window.  This may interfere with getting the message sent. So remember to disconnect from CHAT each and every time you leave the CHAT room and when you log off. It takes a second or two but it's worth doing.

4. Late at night NING does a lot of updating of the system. I have found that if I am on here early in the morning it's normally very fast but once in a while, it's very slow.

NING is the social network platform that the Navy For Moms web site is built upon.

Good luck to your sailor (or sailor recruit).

That has happened to me in the past.  I even started a discussion, Problem Sending Private Messages (clickable link) last year. I was able to reply by switching browsers from IE to Mozilla Firefox.

Thank you. Read the link and seems the same thing happening with me. Have never had any trouble before but when I hit Send nothing happens. Will try switching browsers and see if that helps.

I hope it works for you.  It has for me when this has been an issue.
