silly me Julie! I didn't even remember starting that post! But I just added to your note!

We were in Japan for five years but in Yokosuka, it is Nick's birthplace! I never made it to Sasebo but Steve did and it is supposed to be beautiful! It is a smaller base but very nice area - I hope you are saving your pennies so you can go visit someday!

We have retired Navy friends that loved Japan so very much that they retired there and are working on the Navy base so we are hoping that Nick gets orders so we have multiple reasons to go visit!

I know what you are talking about Nancy, when we were stationed in Japan and making our plans for shore duty. My husband had to explain to me a few times :-) that they don't typically take a sailor from the east coast to west coast, etc. Sounds like that is still the case today.

Welcome to the group...Cindy and Cheryl. We look forward to hearing about your sons. Are they in A school now and will they be ETs or FCs?

I hope I haven't overlooked any new members, this group has grown rapidly!

Wow - what a busy room tonight!

So where's the discussion on C schools???

Photos are good on my computer - couple of dark ones but it looks like everyone had a great time!

LynnDear - so sorry for your disappointment, they generally don't approve chits for leave while they are in school but since Wade is not in class...

There have been changes in the process but I understand they still pick their orders for C school based on their class standing.

Jackie I recognize Kimberly and Peggy from the TX get together. Do you have the names of the 7 ladies sitting and standing by the specials of the day chalkboard? Do you have any of Julie, Kelly and Marsher? Did you see Julie's pics? They're great!! I remember your husband talking to Jorge at Flannagans. Do you have any pics of the Navy dads?

Your bucket list - you always make me smile CCR.

THey usually get two weeks leave about A school but it also depends on when their C school begins, sometimes they have to report sooner. So watcha mean...double up??

When is Patrick due to finish A school? Are you already making plans for graduation?

wow, I'm trying to read the last 4 pages and keep up with everyone. Kelly's back too! Nancy sounds like her trip was exciting and I'm gonna see if she has pictures posted. Julie its so good to have you back, I'm gonna go look at Kyle.
BTW, I have Boston Pops on my Bucket List.

I'm curious. They usually have 2 wks vacation after A school, so they get to come home, right? So if you drive/fly there and they get to fly home, thats doubled up isnt' it?

I think when they leave MEPS now, the contract will specify AE/CF but not the specific rate. That happens in bc at classification. In our son's case, he was not given a choice but was told...he would be FC but it is what he was hoping for so it worked out.

FCs receive almost two years of schooling on the front end depending on which system they will be working on so two things for you to think about.

1) Almost two years before he will be on his first deployment
2) Lots and lots of college credits between his A and C schools

It's a good thing!

Susan, is he still in boot camp? Did he meet with the "career counselor" that usually happens in the third or fourth week now and then they will tell them what job is available to him.

Our son's contract specified the AE/CF program but he would receive one of 4 positions in that field and it was to be determined while he was in boot camp.

He did receive FC which is what he was hoping for and my husband served as an FC for 10 years. We think it is a great rate and there is a job description posted above. But all rates within the AE/CF are good positions with lots of schooling on the front end.
