Daughter Enlisting In Summer...need advice from mommas

I am new to the site and could use some guidance and support from other proud mommas. I have a 19 year daughter enlisting in August. I am so proud of her choice and decision to become a sailor! I show nothing but support and encouragement to her. While behind the scenes, to be honest I do cry, often. I have so many questions and not knowing what all to expect is hard. I joined Navy for Moms for support from moms to moms. Please tell me I am not alone in these feelings.Sincerely,1ProudmammaSee More

1Proudmamma,

I see you recently joined Moms of Daughters 2 group and I want to welcome you.  I know this group isn't as active as it used to be. Pretty much all our seasoned moms have moved on as their sailors are either well established or veterans now.  I still have one son and one daughter active and they are both doing well.

You are certainly not alone in your wide range of emotions as you prepare for your daughter to leave for bootcamp.  I am a Navy Veteran myself and I already had a son enlisted when my youngest daughter decided to enlist.  I tried to prepare her as much as I could possibly do, but I soon learned I wasn't prepared for how hard it was going to be for me!!! I stayed strong for her twin sister, since they never went through separations before, and always spoke positively and proudly about her decision.  But every minute I had alone, I was in tears.  I will tell you it gets better, but it is something we just have to get through!!! And there is no time limit on how long it takes.

Certainly join the bootcamp moms group as that stays active and so much has changed since my daughter enlisted.  Her twin enlisted 4 years after her sister, but she went to OCS after graduating college.  She is still in and is making the Navy her career.

Feel free to reach out to me if you have some questions, concerns, or just want to talk!!  I am still always here!!!

Anna

Welcome to NAVYforMoms.com!

Head to “Settings” on the main page right away to add a profile image (no last names visible, please) and complete your Profile. Then - and this is important! - read these Community Guidelines and this Operations Security (OPSEC) Checklist, for the safety and privacy of all our Sailors.

Then jump right in!  Browse around the site and check out the groups and the information in their Discussion Forums.

Join this group for boot camp moms, where you'll also find a group for your Pass in Review (graduation) date; and this one for PIR Reference Information.

Get a head start during boot camp by joining groups for, and learning about, your Sailor's occupational specialty and "A" School; and later your Sailor's duty station and/or Navy ship and homeport. You can also join groups for your own state, region or home town and interests from getting ready for deployment to care package ideas!

Please say Hi when you join a group, and feel free to ask any and all questions - everyone was new once, and there is no "dumb" question.  This site was created by the U.S. Navy just for you, and we look forward to getting to know you and your Sailor.  Welcome to the NAVY family - we're so glad you're here!!
