Interesting conversation about car insurance. We are with Travelers and put our son's car on "storage" while he was in boot camp costed about $25 for six month, we did not drive it but would start it every week or so. He then decided to sell his jeep and we talked to our insurance agent and she suggested that we just keep him on our policy so he could drive our cars while he was home on leave and he would not be penalized as a high risk driver down the road for not having insurance coverage. It cost a few dollars but we thought it was worth it..........HOWEVER he is in the process of buying a Jeep in Hawaii and we went thru USAA - they rates were so good that we thought we should get a quote for our cars as well. When we told them he was still on our policy, they said....hmmm we have a "permissive" policy which means he could drive our cars even if he is not listed on the policy and it was a great way for insurance agents to make a few dollars. So ask your agents ---- do you have a permissive policy? Also encourage your sailors do enroll into USAA - even if they don't use it today or next year, once you join you are members for life and the difference in quality and insurance costs will be worth it.

Right now we have our son's car and he has Allstate Insurance. He has only what the law requires since we have to drive it at least once a month. It is one of those sports cars that need to be driven. Allstate in Florida has been great with him.

I believe that when they leave for boot camp you HAVE to take them off your insurance. They may use your mailing address but technically they do not live at home and are not your dependents. It would be like my parents trying to put me on their insurance when I don't live with them. My son doesn't have his license so I didn't check.

I took my one son off when he sold his car. He is 23 and lives yr. round at school. They have a rate for a dependent that is away at college. It's about 1/4 which I pay for my youngest.

T-Lynn, pictures please.

Isn't this amazing to watch? ALso, if you click on at the top _ Other Wildlife Live Cams - you an see a Red Tail Hawk on her 3 eggs - Bald Eagles with two hatched young ones. I watch the female Eagle this morning feeding her young. I shared this email with my sailor - I can only hope he is able to get to a port to do some viewing too. Havea good day TLynn
