Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of July(although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have July ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in July, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves

(Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

These last few days are going too fast! Connor is having a big dinner with his dad's family tonight, and spending time with friends. I have been dreading the last opportunity we have to talk and say "goodbyes". I know that the swearing in will not be the best time for conversations like that - no privacy and too emotional. I want to send him off with a picture of us looking proud and happy I have been writing a journal of the last week and trying to get
thoughts down on paper that I will give to him the day before he leaves. I have also been sneaking in extra hugs whenever I see him - I told him I would need them for when he is gone. He just thinks I'm weird!
Lorraine, I can only imagine how great it was to hear his voice! Thanks for sharing. It really does help to see past the "leaving".

Ginny, Normally the Navy has a contract with a prefered airline to fly them to GL. In my area it's United. If you know yours, then call the ticket counter the night before and talk to a ticket agent. They will tell you the steps needed. Make sure you get their name, that way if anything happens the day your Sailor leaves you can say "I talked to xxx and they said there would be no problems". If they say it isn't possible to get a pass, then quote the offical TSA website info I linked to....
The main thing to remember is to watch your Sailor get swore in, then drive like mad to get to the airport before them. Your Sailor should keep his cell phone so they can call you and tell you when they arrive. You need to walk up to the ticket counterwith them and get your pass. This is the easy way.... Good Luck....

Ginny, are you speaking of the military family gate passes? If so, you get those when you arrive at the airport from the counter agent. That's what I did when my son was leaving to report to duty station. The GOOD news is that I got to go with him through his own security area which kept us out of the LONG line of other passengers waiting to go through. We literally had no wait. It was WONDERFUL!

That is 2 funny Mary, Justin has been unusually NICE to his sis, even asked me to take a pic of them. . . TOGETHER !!!
Comment by Craig on July 10, 2010 at 12:43am
Mary, I have alot of experience with this. His "P" week should be 13th thru 16th. His 1-1 day of training should be 19th. So I just counted it from there... Per the Gate pass link, look at the para "Military Family Member Gate Passes". It's a great benefit, but sometime real world event can override it.

Craig how do you already know the PIR date if he hasn't left yet? Thanks for the info on the gate passes, I'm going to check that out right now.

Hello all, My nephew is leaving for BC on Monday, July 12th. Can't wait to attend PIR Sept 10th... For those that aren't aware, you can ask for airport gate passes to be with your "soon-to-be" Sailor until they board the plane.

Well as you can see by Morgans comment below, 4 days left!!!!! Spent a nice day together today. Went down and both got a haircut, her looks so nice and shouldn't need to be cut when she gets to BC because it is above the collar. We then went out for a nice lunch then off to get pedicures together. Tomorrow is her going away BBQ and this may be a tough one for me. I lost it when Morgan was getting her hair cut!!! Sunday will be family time, Monday I take her to the recruiters office at 1:15, then will drive out to have dinner with her at the hotel. Will also go back in the morning on Tuesday to see the swearing in. I'll have to have my son take pictures cause I probably won't be able to see where the button is to push. I keep telling myself I am not going to cry, but smile and cheer her on as she follows her dreams, but doubt I will be able to hold it together. Easier said than done I am sure. Either way I will continue to post throughout the rest of this journey as I know that we are all traveling it together!

Last week was my bday and he gave me a charm for my necklace in front it has United States Navy, and the back he had engraved "ALWAYS IN MY HEART" LOVE JUSTIN 7/12/10 the date he leaves... I could not hold back the tears, and even still just looking at it. I am really trying to be strong, and reading all these posts helps me so much. I know I am not alone.

Mary: I understand that the USO provides free food and drink to the military and treats them well.
