For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of July(although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have July ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in July, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Throwing my arms around all of you Moms this morning. May each and every day get easier than the one before. I just need to remember my own words as Morgan leaves next Monday for MEPS and Tuesday for GL. She is meeting with the recruiter this morning to go over the last paperwork that needs to be filled out. Think we will hit up a movie late in the day. We both want to see Grown Ups, looks like a good laugh, which is just what I need right about now!

my son left 2 hours ago and I feel like a piece of my heart is gone. I am so proud of him. It was cool to see how many of his classmates came by to tell him good bye and how they couldn't wait to see him as a sailor.

Morning All
Thinking of you KK and any other Depper Mom today...as I will be in your shoes this time next week. Today is my sons last MEPS meeting and tomorrow he says he has to go back to do more paperwork. As this day gets closer, I find my stomach more in knots. I know its time to let go, and going into the Navy is a good thing but he is my first born and its hard to let go.
Will check back in later to see how KK and everyone is .

CTT is a good rate! I retired as a CTO about 3 yrs ago so I am very familiar with the Navy and CTs. Bri will be Aircrew and is excited and sad about leaving (she is married with a son) but is ready to get on with her life in the Navy. I have another daughter, Shelby, leaving in Aug that will be a CTN. We actually live in Huntsville, AL but have to go to Nashville for MEPS. I have to say this is a little different being on this side of the Navy. I am so proud, excited, and a little envious of both my girls. I miss the Navy so much.

Retired navy to navy mom---- Courtney is CTT, she is really excited about her new career and new life........she will excel in whatever she does!!! We aren't far from Nashville, we live in Murphy, NC (probably about 4 ish hours)

Yvonne yes that sounds right to me. My daughter will be taken to the hotel the night before she leaves for GL. I am not sure why they have to go the night before, I think they may get a physical that day, and sworn in the next morning before they fly out, but I could be wrong. Morgan has a meeting with the recruiter tomorrow so she may have more info to bring home. I am hoping that I can go down to the hotel and have dinner with her, which she thinks I will be able to do. I am lucky in that it is only about a 40 minute drive.

Cyndi I know what you mean about getting all choked up. My daughter Morgan had been bugging me for months to get on this site, but in just reading a few posts I couldn't handle it. Now I look forward to it because no matter what I am feeling or needing to talk about, someone else is also feeling the very same thing! I honestly know now why people say they don't know what they would do without this site! Don't get me wrong, I still loose it in reading what everyone else has to say, but that is all part of the journey.
Went down to the Navy / Army depot today and bought the family shirts to wear at her party that we are having next Saturday. Found a couple of bumper stickers that say "My Daughter is in the US Navy" so of course I had to buy them. We also have magnetic bumper stickers that say We Love our Hero, Morgan Drury, all of which I am very proud to display. Now have a Navy flag hanging on our front window.
It just sickens me that this time next week my lil girl, who has grown to a beautiful young lady, will be gone. Lord knows I am going to need strength to get through that two day process of the hotel and final departure.

Had a wonderful day with Morgan and her friend in San Francisco today! I am so very thankful for the last week that we get to spend together. Looking forward to the rest of our time together trying not to think about next Monday when she leaves for the hotel for the night. sighhhhh
