Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Good Morning - I just wanted to direct you all to a post on the general page - What are the rules - Navy For Moms (ning.com)
You can see a link to Cathy's previous post on that page as well. Her son and DIL are both at GL in BC. The DIL has injured herself. She is asking for rules or advice about writing both of them now. I did not know if anyone had experience or thoughts along these lines that they could share with her.

It is hard to let our children or grandchildren go. I don't know what your religious background is, and generally, I don't get so pointed and bold on here, but I want to share with you what my Mother in law told me when she sent my husband to Army basic training - almost 40 years ago now. She knew that she was starting to feel down and depressed at missing him and she had to tell herself that she was not the one that needed to feel sorry for herself, but that she needed to be thinking about her son and praying for him and the things that he was going through. If you are interested, we also have a ✟CHRISTIAN NAVY MOMS - Navy For Moms (ning.com) group, if that would be of interest to you.
Fast forward about 8 years from my MIL having those feelings about my husband and I was now married to him with an 18 mo. old and had just had a miscarriage. He had to go do some summer training for ROTC and I was feeling just as down. Interestingly, my mother told me the same thing as my MIL had to tell herself. I had family around, I still had my life - nothing had changed much except for him being gone - and he was coming back in two weeks (I realize it is different for you.) but I had to change my perspective and start focusing my energy that I was spending on praying for my husband and taking care of things that I could do.
There is a difference, I do not discount that. There is also a huge separation, some of the moms have shared that they feel like they are grieving as though they lost a child. (We just came back from the funeral of a young child - it is hard.) Have you been writing letters to your granddaughter? Do you have friends, someone you can ask to just go to lunch with? They may not understand but they can listen.
See if you can find a Blue Star Mothers Group in your area. Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc - One mom looked up her local VFW to see if there was any way she could help out and volunteer, or volunteer at a local VA hospital, at an airport USO for military traveling. Our local airport has a hospitality room that is hosted by the YMCA.
Staying active and getting busy with something helps. My son left for BC 5 years ago - That year, I had lost my mother (already lost my father, and a childless aunt and uncle), lost that aunt's childless brother - so I dealt with most of the estate stuff, had one daughter get married before her brother left and had a 2nd daughter get married prior to his PIR in an outdoor wedding at a property we were maintaining, so had to do yard work. And I had 2 other children as well. I actually told my son, the summer is probably going faster for me than for him! But it kept me from dwelling on him being gone all the time.

Hi Sandy - I hope that you receive this message. You posted to the group which goes through our email feed, but there is no way for us to reply to you. If you come to this area on the comment wall of this page, then you can post your message and more members will see it.
I also highly recommend that you join the Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) - Navy For Moms (ning.com) - there are several other moms going through the exact same thing as you are. We highly recommend that you involve yourself in some project, posting on the groups, which this site is easier to navigate on a computer. If you are on a mobile device, we recommend that you put it into desktop mode.

Ummi - My apologies that I never responded to your post here. I was in the middle of some serious family issues right at that time. If I am not mistaken, has she moved on to her duty station or is she still in school?
B'sNukeMom - Beautiful pictures. Your sailors waited until they were both out to get married whereas mine married while still enlisted, but my sailor gal has moved on to her shore duty orders now, while my son is still on sea duty.
