OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

N4M's Community Guidelines
and
OPSEC.

~OPSEC OPerational SECurity, is always of the utmost importance.

~N4M’s also has Community Guidelines just like any other social media.

~Please take the time to read the OPSEC and N4M’s Community Guidelines.

~A quick note here, from the N4M’s CG’s:

• Don’t Jeopardize the Safety of Our Sailors: Remember OPSEC (Operational Security) (Don’t Sink Ships With Loose Lips) This site and all content posted on it are viewable to everyone on the Internet. This doesn’t mean you can’t share things about your Sailor – but too many details can put Sailors in harm’s way. The following are examples of red flags and should not be shared within this community either by posting or sending via a Group message:

• Sailors’ last names. This includes your username if you share the same last name as your son or daughter.

Some Suggestions:

~If your last name is different from your Recruits it is still not recommended for you to use in your username for your own personal security. This is your option. It is also not a good idea to use an email address as your username for personal security reasons.

~First Names and pictures of your Recruit are allowed but remember, everyone can see it and someone can easily match them up with their "mom". So you might want to consider changing your profile picture to not include your Recruit at least for the duration of BC. Again, your option

~It is also a good idea to make your settings for your Profile Page "viewable only to your friends"

junebug, my son went in as a Nuke. They were asked last week what their preference was out of the three possible ratings, EM(electrician's mate), MM(machinist mate), or ET(electronic technician).

MittenMom, Thank you for this information. I'm so glad you got a letter. I didn't get one today but they seem to be coming on Thursdays and Fridays here. It's so fun to get mail!

Can you explain what you mean about getting first pick? My son is Aviation Structural Mechanic. I haven't met any other AMs here.

I received a letter from my SR today!  Ship 2 Div 921. He wrote it on Sat (19) and said that they are in Fire Fighter training and their last test would be this week.  He also said the gas chamber was the next day. (Sunday the 20th).  He is very excited about getting his first pick of Electritian"s Mate (Nuclear) and most of his Nuke friends got their first pick rating also but not all. He mentioned about working the graduation on the 17th.  He said it was hard on all of the SR"s watching the graduates get to leave with their families and he and his division having to go back to the ship. FYI...he said he is 95% sure he will be calling us on Monday the 27th.  He said to keep my phone near, he didn't know what time it would be.  He sounded really good and said that bootcamp is getting easier and that the RDC's have lightened up on them.  They even allow smiles and jokes now and then.  He and the other Nukes are looking forward to getting to SC and settling in.  I hope some you also got letters.  I know that when I didn't and others posted what their SR's wrote it helped me feel better.  9 more days!!! Can't wait!

Hello there!

starmomkt:  Judging by your division number, I believe your I'm a Sailor call may come early next week.  But everyone needs to keep phones close on Fri afternoon this week...just in case!

junebug:  This week should be final PFAs (fitness test) for the divisions.  No matter what they did on the first 2, the SRs MUST pass this last one.  There may be final academic tests as well...this is a tough week but they are getting close to BattleStations and becoming sailors!
