RuthAnn,
I believe he will get a chance to come home after A School, my son was going to come home but after talking to the detailer he decided to ship out right after school. As far as Guam, it is not only guard and gate duty, you can be attached to a ship while there... so it can be sea or shore duty.

Guam is primarily guard and gate duty. Travis in California is pre deployment

Thanks, Teresa. So...does he not get any leave after A school???? I thought perhaps my son would get to come home for a week or something before shipping out. :(

Tabitha, the Navy sends them where they need them. Right now, I guess, the most need is in Bahrain. Although I'm sure there are other places needing to be filled and my understanding is that the ones that finish with the best grades and scores in school get first choice of orders. And it is my understanding that MA's are stationed for 2 years for their first duty station where ever that may be and very well can be overseas. My older son is out on deployment right now on the USS Nimitz but stationed in San Diego. Does that make sense?

Is being sent to Guam/Baharian normal for most MA's? Just wondering if we'll be stationed overseas or is this for a deployment?

Hi RuthAnn,
My son has been in San Antonio since 10/13. He just got his orders last week and he is going to Guam. I am very excited for him. He actually ships out the day after he graduates from A school, so we are going to see him this weekend :) I heard the same thing as you have, everyone goes to Baharian, but not so! I don't like the waiting game either.... Teresa

I heard from my Tony last night, he passed OC, what a relief! The whole milk face dip was the best advice he said as he was on his way to the baby shampoo shower! This info came via Navy for Moms! Heap big thanks from Tony and me! The OC training was postponed due to Veterans Day so it was on a Monday instead of Friday. Tony says he is studying hard and is now really pumped for the rest of training now that this part of training is over (he started on 11/9) Love to all the MA moms...Terrie

Nevermind...Brent called. He is starting class tomorrow! yay! Now on to worry about where we will go after this. He told me just now that most everyone is getting sent to Bahrain unless there are doing something special. (Not his words...mine). Does anyone know about what is happening to most of the graduates from MA school? And how long do they have before shipping out after graduation? I know I'm worrying early, but i have a feeling the next 7-8 weeks will FLY by. Thanks for any info!

Does anyone else have someone that is starting class this week? I think my son, Brent is suppose to start tomorrow. I talked to him last night and he said he has "pre-class" today. But that there were people saying they wouldn't start class until after Thanksgiving. His orders said he started tomorrow though. So.....I was just curious if anyone else was in the same boat. He is ready to get started....He has been in since May and was in Pensacola for a while before reclassing. I think he is anxious to feel like he is "going" somewhere.
