OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Please note! Changes to this guide happened in October 2017. There are now tickets issued, and there are no longer parking passes for PIR.

Heather, on the River Walk there are plenty of places to eat.  You can also make reservations to eat a meal on the river walk boat tour.  SA has a Hard Rock, Paesano's (Italian Food), The Original (mexican food), Dicks (chicken/burgers), Bella (Mediterranean).  Here is a link to some of the River Walk attractions:  http://riverwalkguide.com/restaurants-on-the-riverwalk/

Hotels on the River Walk are also listed on that site under lodging.  If you decide to stay close to the base there is a Red Roof Inn and a Quality Inn by there.

We stayed in San Antonio for four days.  Then had a week at home before she had to ship out to Bahrain.

Heather, there are plenty of hotels in downtown SA that you might like.  They are off the River Walk and close to the mall and sight seeing areas.  Its about a 15 to 20 min drive to the base, but you'll have more to see if you're downtown.  By the base there are hotels, but there's nothing to see around there because its just a neighborhood.  So, downtown is your best best or you can stay off of Hwy 151 that is close to Sea World and in proximity to the malls and Fiesta TX.

@NavyMama - regarding the towels - I was told that they have towels that are given to them at Boot Camp and they bring those with them to A School.  My son said it was plenty and that they shouldn't need more because its just more to pack when they leave A School.

@Heather - I don't know much about the A School graduation since my son is presently in A School, but what I do know is soon after the quick 15-20 graduation (pinning ceremony) they have to move out their stuff from their room that same day.  Not sure on the time frame, but do know my son's roommate who graduated was told he had to get his things and go.

Will we be able to go sightseeing with our son before graduation or right after graduation ? What happens the day of graduation after they graduate.

We stayed downtown.  It was cheaper.  Chose Uber to get us to Riverwalk and back.  Inexpensive and convenient.

Good morning!  I am looking for suggestions on where to stay in San Antonio during graduation.  We will be kidless, so it will just be my husband and myself.  I was looking at places to stay on the river walk? Good? Bad?  So excited!

OK--that's good to know!  Thanks, again for the info!
