It is nice and sunny down here in Florida, it rained last night pretty bad on the coast.  I am old school I don't do texts, my son knows he had better call me.  Besides I would rather hear his voice.

Glad to hear you Gold Crew moms are getting emails! I have been getting brief but steady texts from my son and it sounds like he is settling in to his shore duty.  We are stuck in a cold and wet (sleet/snow/rain) weather pattern here and it is taking every ounce of restraint I have not to fly down to visit him!

Yes, Donna, my son is on the gold. He's brand new so is working on getting quals done but says there's not much time.

My son was always locked in his room on his computer.  He is the new guy they will have fun with him.  My son had one Chief that would hid so he did not have to sign the qual cards, he did that to mess with the guys.  They can not watch any movies are play video games are any thing like that in till they get there dolphins.  My son got his when he was out at sea and I got a really nice letter from his Commander telling me he got his dolphins.  My son has told me some of the crazy things that they do on the boat, but it is all to keep the morale up and it is all in good fun they do it in all the branches of the military.  I did some when I was in the Army.

My son and I are use to it when he was 2 years old I had to leave him with my parents for a year while I was oversea in the Army.  When I got out it was not easy with my work.  Well I did get his 2nd message just about 2 hours ago.  He said they are having fun fixing stuff, and his friend just got his dolphins so his first movie they saw was a 007 movie.  He also said he does not want to hear about the family drama, just tech stuff.  So he sent me a list of tech stuff he want me to email him.  He is such a geek.   He even told me he finished his Star Wars book and that his nook is giving him trouble, so he wants to buy the new nook out.

I don't mind when my son is close to home, but the places far away are not my favorite times.

Comment by Kathy on April 14, 2013 at 1:32pm

Yep he is with the Gold, are will be for another 3 1/2 months.  Hopefully after he finishes his tour at Pearl Harbor he can come back to Kings Bay.  Because it is kind of close to home.

Kathy and Susan, both of your sons are on the Alaska-Gold? Just trying to keep it straight who is where. I haven't heard from my son this weekend, but it is nice to know someone has from his boat.

Comment by Kathy on April 14, 2013 at 9:10am

Glad to hear he is doing fine.  I did not hear from my son but I know he got my emails.  But I don't expect to hear from him for a while.  He tells me that they are usual busy on the boat.  So I as long as he is getting my emails I ok with that.
