Gailie, thanks so much for your wonderful hospitality. I had a good time getting to know all you wonderful ladies and my mom had a good time too. Derek will be in my prayers and I hope you have a good week. Linda

Gailie, thank you so much for your hospitality. You are so thoughtful to have done the location needs. I didn't realize that you and I are the same age--you look younger. My birthday is 12/01/48. Keep in touch. Karen

Thanks, Gailie, for your hospitality today. Thanks for sharing the footage, too. As you say, they work hard and they play hard. It's just too bad they can't be stationed here! - Chris A. - GJ

Gailie--how many people can you comfortably entertain in your home--is there a patio outside? All of a sudden we've got 8 more people. Is 20 too many for your home? Call me and we can talk Monday morning 970-366-9917. Karen

Thank you for the welcome Gailie. Sorry for the delay in my response, but I don't get on the computer that frequently. I will try to stay in contact and I will keep your family (with all others) in my thoughts.

Thanks for the welcome, Gailie. Congratulations on your son's position. That must be very exciting. My son was just deployed last week to the Persian Gulf. I, too, pray a whole lot more, but am just so excited for him seeing the world and adding to his beautiful character. At 84 years-old, my father (former Navy, too), is beside himself with excitement and wishes he were on Tony's ship. If he were and it turned out to be the final act of his life, he would be the happiest angel flying up to heaven with a Naval anchor to open the locks of the Pearly Gates!

Good wishes to you and your son. Keep in touch. I will enjoy looking around the site.

Thanks for working on our Western Slope gathering! I'm looking forward to it.
We were immersed into Navy culture while in San Diego. I updated my page, so you can read all about it.

Hi Gail,
F-18s would probably be my son's first choice. Of course the Navy will get to decide. His wife is hoping for a warm climate. He has to make it through OCS first. He did sound discouraged and sick, but did have an idea of what to expect going in. I am not sure it had completely registered that this is harder than USMC boot camp. They met while he was studying in Thailand on his GI bill. I do hope to come to the gathering. I am a native. My family has lived here since 1892, and I graduated from FMHS the second year it was open. We were away for ten years while my husband was on active duty. He was a preventive medicine officer and stayed in the reserves, retiring in '05. Our son was born at Landsthul AMC, so he was an Army brat, turned US Marine and now a Naval OC. He was in aviation ordnance in support of OIF in '03. It was a real nail biter when snail mail was taking a month. They didn't have access to email and couldn't phone home. We got a couple post cards written on MRE box ends. We first heard his voice when he called from Guam on the return trip. It took detective work to figure out when to go welcome him home at Camp Pendleton. He was on a very small boat. In 2004 when my husband went to Iraq, at least he could email and phone home every ten days or so. He had 12 days notice when he was called up, as he was back-filled to another unit. Actually short notice can be better than months of anticipation.
That's great that Leslie found a house and managed a move while your son was gone! When my husband deployed he gave me POA to sell our house and buy a new one. I didn't get that mission accomplished. The three kids were home during that deployment, which was a blessing. I don't know how much I'll be able to be on this site, as there are ten days left before wedding planning begins in earnest for the youngest. It's a less than six month engagement. I would very much like to keep in touch with you, though. We NFO Moms have to stick together! I do not believe we found each other by chance.
