OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

A little about me:
I'm a mom of 5, my one and only son left for RTC Tuesday, 1/14/14 and will be going to San Diego after graduation. He will be a mine man after completion. Joining this site to learn how I can be help to him, as I am now an emotional mess! :) Truly the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I have been told how amazing it is for him and how he will grow, yadda, yadda yadda. And yes I am so proud of him, but it doesn't make me miss him any less!

Don't forget to make change 3.

Join the group, DEP-Leavin' for Boot Camp in January, to connect with others with loved ones who left the same day and may have PIR together. Then join the PIR group when it forms.

Make change 3 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (clickable link). There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.

Since your SR will go to “A” School for Mineman (MN), you'll also want to join Mineman Moms. Apprentice Technical Training (ATT) is at GL after PIR for about 6 weeks and then your Sailor will go to San Diego, CA to the Naval Mine and Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center for “A” School. The Rating Information Card for MN can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/mn.pdf. That indicates Ingleside, TX, but that is wrong; “A” School has been in San Diego for several years. Since ATT is at GL, you will be able to spend extra time with your Sailor following PIR. (See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend.)

Welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) for information on what to expect and to help you prepare for PIR. Start with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC and read 1 or 2 pages a day and then go back to them as you need the info. Take care and blessings to you and yours.
