OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

The "I'm a Sailor!" call isn't even guaranteed although most will make that call. There have been Sailors who didn't make it for one reason or another even though they had passed BST and even a whole division at least once that did not make the calls due to having to practice for PIR and not having time. See Phone Cards and Phone Calls and Battle Stations-21 (BST)

The Rating Information Card for STG can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/stg.pdf and https://www.cool.navy.mil/usn/enlisted/rating_info_cards/stgaef.pdf (STG AEF). (If you get the security warning, it is safe to go there.)

Those who have signed a 6 year contract for AEF will have Apprentice Technical Training (ATT) at GL after PIR for about 6 weeks and then will go to San Diego, CA to the Naval Mine and Anti-Submarine Warfare Training Center for “A” School. Those who have signed for less than 6 years will go straight to San Diego the day after PIR. See PIR Day and Liberty during PIR Weekend to help you plan your weekend.
