Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Sounds like my W was in bootcamp with your son; graduated on the 10th.  Sounds like they had a nice weekend to relax...mental relaxation before the week to come.

Thanks for the tip about not using names...didn't even think about the risk.

My "W" said they had their first DOR yesterday.  All of the prep to get into the program, and through basic...just so sad to see them go.  I guess the rigorous training just ensures that those who make the cut are thoroughly prepared for what is to come.  Fingers are still crossed for all...

Hi Noreen---Did you hear from you son yesterday or today?  I'm interested in hearing the perspectives of the other candidates.  I did hear from Steve.  One candidate in the class twisted his ankle and may not be able to continue (stinks!).  He said a few others were struggling.  I could tell a difference in his tone from Tuesday to Wednesday...I think it was a pretty rough day.  I hope that I get at least a text tonight...

I agree, not talking is difficult.  I want to know what is happening every day, and know how Steve is feeling.  A text message just doesn't convey the inflection of tone when he writes "I'm okay"; does it mean he's really okay?  I'm interesting in knowing how the squad (is that the term?) is doing...keep me posted about what you hear.  Let's just hope we can meet at SWCC graduation.

Ty called me at 1:30 this afternoon to let me know they landed and it was "hot as balls" there. I told him that Great Lakes was due to get about 6" of snow tonight and he said he would rather be there. My poor poor baby (I wish there was a sarcasm font)! The adventure is beginning for our young men!
