It seems like more than the 2.5 weeks it's actually been since that wonderful phone call, "I'm a member of the United States Navy!" That he had to retake the PRT one time seems, as I knew it would, like an inconsequential matter after we received word that he'd passed the Battle Stations. I still haven't seen him since early April, but just to be able to text by phone or have an occasional conversation still seems like such a treat. Oh my, he has changed.!
Sisters whose young ones…

I'm not sure it is real to my future sailor even yet, since he won't arrive at the actual boot camp site until at least tomorrow, but it sure is real to me. Leaving him at the hotel was definitely bittersweet; but to be able to witness both the recruiter's confidence in him and his quiet assurance of this new direction was really uplifting.
Some friends thought it was 'too bad' that he had to leave on Easter weekend. Though appreciating their support, from my end it seemed…

He'll be home for just 10 days before he leaves for boot camp early next month. Already the preliminary meeting have brought about growth and excitement in my son that I'd not expected for months yet.
Uneasy about 2 months of non-communication while he's under stress? Absolutely; and yet, it's so clear that this is another way in which I'm being taught to trust and respect the young man he has become and is becoming.
For so many years I've thought that I needed to be the…

I haven't heard my son sound this excited and confident in years! He took his pledge yesterday. It's increasingly clear to me that this is the right path for him.
Thankful that he's chosen to serve our country, I wonder whether he knows what he's in for. But then, does any son or daughter know what life's next chapters hold? He's strong, of that I'm certain, and the Navy will make him stronger.
I'm uncertain how to respond to well-intentioned friends who say something like…

Since you have a recruit at the RTC, you can change "Waiting to leave for Boot Camp" above to "Enlisted."
Join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in April. You will meet others with loved ones leaving that day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together. Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC. I also suggest you to join Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) and begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) and Discussions there.
Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer him to some good links on there.
If your son/daughter gets a ship date, go to the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC. At the bottom are links for each of the months, join the one for the month that your then future Sailor ships.
