OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Ok, I don't mean to send you so many messages tonight but I was looking at your profile page again and I see you listed that your daughter is waiting to attend OCS!!  My officer daughter went OCS back in 2012.  She is a LT now and is an NFO stationed in Oklahoma.  Has your daughter applied to OCS?  Do you know where in the process she is??

Also, when you get a chance, you still need to change your URL associated with your profile so it does not contain your last name.  If you need help, please don't hesitate to let me know, I can send you some simple instructions.  Well seriously now, is anything simple any more when it comes to computers?!?!?!?

Welcome to NAVYforMoms.com!

Head to “Settings” on the main page to set your new Username (no last name, please), a profile image (again, no last names visible) and complete your Profile. Then - and this is important! - read these Community Guidelines and this Operations Security (OPSEC) Checklist, for the safety and privacy of all our Sailors.

Jump right in!  Browse around the site and check out the groups and the information in their Discussion Forums.  Two suggestions to start with:  USS Bataan (LHD 5) and Amphibious (Gator Navy).

Be sure to say Hi and introduce yourself when you join a group, and feel free to ask any and all questions.  This site was created by the U.S. Navy just for you.  We look forward to getting to know you and your Sailor.  Welcome to the NAVY family - we're so glad you're here!

Sduncan49,

Welcome to Navy For Moms.  I want to suggest you take a short minute and read the guidelines for choosing your username in the column FIRST TIME HERE.  We can not post our last names on this website because of security issues.  After you change your user name, you will also need to change the URL associated with your profile so that it also does not include your last name.  I'll post some instructions for that at the end of this message.  Thank you for joining Navy For Moms, and if there is anything I can help you with, don't hesitate to contact me!!!  Welcome Aboard!!!

When you need to change the name on your URL: Click on "Settings" in the upper left part of your profile page. Under My Settings click on "My Page" The next screen says "My Page Settings" in the middle. Go down to "Address" and in the box next to "http://www.navyformoms.com/profile/", make the change to just your user name, and/or random letters and numbers, with no spaces or use underscores for the spaces. Then go to the bottom and click the "Save" button. If you are making the changes on your Smart phone, you will need to change to Desktop View before making this change because in the mobile view, you will not have the option to make the change and the URL will already be different from your Username.
