Thank you very much for checking, Sherry. That info is very useful to know. Will let my son decide whether he takes leave to go see his grandparents over the Christmas break or whether he just flakes out and relaxes. Unlikely we will go see him from the UK if also heading out there around a month later for graduation.  Really appreciate your help. :)

not sure it makes sense for us to fly over at Christmas and then again for graduation at end of Jan - very expensive. Especially if I need to stay awhile and go down to Pensacola to help him sort out getting his license and a car, etc.

Might see if my son wants to go to his grandparents in the US. They would love to have him.

Hi Sherryg!

Thanks for that heads up and for responding to my post :)

Did you mean that your son had time off in the middle of officer training for Christmas?
If so, how would my son find out if that is the case this year?
We live in the UK so it would be helpful to know in advance if possible to make arrangements to go out and see him.

By the way, my husband is a professor at  Business school in London and I was a teacher of psychology for over 20 years…we are also surprised about our son going into the US Navy and though we are very proud of him, this world is so alien to us and we have so many questions and worries.

Thanks!
