OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Please note! Changes to this guide happened in October 2017. There are now tickets issued, and there are no longer parking passes for PIR.

Please see changes to attending PIR in the PAGES column. The PAGES are located under the member icons on the right side.

The ships aren't ships :-)

Started this discussion. Last reply by BunkerQB Feb 23, 2014. 6 Replies

Being a rookie at all this, I pictured all these practice ships sitting in the harbor at Great Lakes.  I figured the SRs were literally on the ships.  It turns out the "ships" are actually buildings.…Continue

I'm lovin' the Navy today

OK, so I wasn't the biggest fan 3 weeks ago when my SR went off to boot camp.  As a matter of fact, I was rather disgruntled (but tried to hide it in front of him).  His beloved grandfather (my…Continue

If SR misses PIR, does that mean family shouldn't go to Great Lakes?

Started this discussion. Last reply by lemonelephant Feb 9, 2014. 1 Reply

More questions!  I noticed there have been a few moms that have mentioned that their SRs missed their PIR.  What exactly happens at that point?  Does the family then cancel all travel arrangements or…Continue

So, I tried the little acronym looker upper and "SR" came back "sorry, that isn't in our database."  Does SR mean "sailor" or something else?bluemomContinue

Make change 3 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (clickable link). There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.

Has your daughter gotten a ship date and is in DEP? If so, go to the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC. At the bottom are links for each of the months, join the one for the month that your future Sailor ships.

You may want to check out Mom’s of Navy Daughters, Mom's of Daughters 2, and Women in the Navy.

Your future Sailor may want to join to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer her to some good links on there.

Welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) for information on what to expect and to help you prepare for PIR. What is your SR's rating (job/specialty) going to be? There are groups for most ratings and/or "A" Schools and knowing that will help you to better plan for PIR weekend. Take care and blessings to you and yours.
