OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Make changes 3 and 4 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (clickable link). There may be other changes you need to make as well, so read and consider each of the changes.

Thanks for the friend request. My son finished his 5 year commitment to the Navy last year. He was able to find a job within one month of leaving the Navy. Your son Navy experience will do the same for him, if he decides to leave. Of course, making Navy a life-long career would have been OK with us too. I noticed that your son is going to be a Aviation Mechanic. We went to Pensacola back in '07 - you are going to be sooooo impressed by the young men and women that you'll see. They all looked like they are having the time of their lives. They all walk with a purposeful stride, with smiles on their faces. They loved like they loved what they were doing.  I envy you - you are just at the beginning of your journey.

Welcome to Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones); I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Be sure to check out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) beginning with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile); you may want to make changes 3 and 4. Join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in August, to connect with others with loved ones who left the same day and may have PIR together. What is your SR's rating (job/specialty) going to be? There are groups for most ratings and/or "A" Schools and knowing that will help you to better plan for PIR weekend. Take care and blessings to you and yours.

16hrs since I received that scripted phone call from my son. Unaware of the "scripted" part and or length of phone call (48 sec). I could hear stress in his voice. Also unaware of being able to have accompanied him to his recruiter meetings for preparation on what to expect after final swear in. Maybe he thought I wouldn't have been as supportive had I attended. Definitely unprepared for this journey. Never been away from my three children. My heart feels heavy. Experiencing detachment with my children becoming adults and leaving NEST that's been built with a strong foundation with walls insulated with ADT security. Now not even being able to communicate with my middle child and only son. I feel as if I'm grieving or had a loss. Emotions from PROUD, SAD, UNCERTAIN, EXCITED for his journey, and LONGING to hear him say "I'm going fishing". Never thought it would be so hard to fold his clothes, walk past his door, pick up his shoes, or not hear his car crank. Wondering if there are other navy moms who have experienced these feelings? Today only cried once and here I am writing without tissues thanks to the support from another navy mom (whose ex navy chief).
