DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Mom of two and want to become an HM.....

Posted on July 1, 2015 at 8:41pm 1 Comment

I am not yet married we will be soon but I would like to join the Navy not only to be an HM but I know that it's a great opportunity for school. My ultimate goal is to become a surgeon outside of the Navy. I am now 26 years old. After I successfully pass the ASVAB what should I expect when I do become a HM? Will I have to go assist Marines would I get deployed a lot? What about my family?

Thank you for responding. I have considered it but by the time I finish my bachelors I would be around 29. I figured I would go in one year from now so in the meantime I can study practice and finish up some classes. I would like to complete the remaining of my bachelors degree while in the Navy on my free time than take the MCAT exam. I see the Navy maybe something long term rather than just 4 years unless they won't accept me going to medical school while I am in. I would have no other choice but to leave and maybe rejoin as a Doctor if I can.

Have you considered an officer program since you want to be a doctor?

Speak with a recruiter, You will need a waiver for the two dependents. Lots of people want to be an HM, so don't get stuck on just that rating.

If you get a ship date, check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for the RTC. Be sure to let your loved ones know about this site. You may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer you to some good links on there. Best wishes and thank you for your interest in serving our country!
