I want you to know that I have been praying for you. My faith has been growing since my LO went to OCS and after talking to him tonight, so has his. I really feel like the Lord allows things to happen (like H class, like trials and circumstances) for many reasons but mostly, for us to see that He is in control; that time is non-existent to Him- He wants to accomplish things that are much bigger than us...the problem is we always get in the way of ourselves. If I can offer you any encouragement, let it be this, "Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart, lean not on YOUR OWN understanding; in ALL your ways acknowledge Him and HE will make your path straight." Proverbs 3:5-6. I pray this a lot in my own life because I am a control-freak and need for things to go my way, but had things gone my way, my LO would not have had the opportunity to share the Gospel with people that needed to hear it and HE would not have had those God-moments that are necessary to grow closer to Him. I know that this time is difficult for you, remember to reach out to others, to maybe join a small group in your church and to remember that the Lord is carrying you when you are frankly unable to go on yourself. You are being prayed for and know that I care about you a lot, despite not knowing you, because I care about everyone! :)

Its good to see that you are doing better. I was trying to remember when I got my first phone call and it was when my son had been there three weeks already. And then later in the week I got a three page letter from him and I felt so guilty because I knew that he must have skipped sleeping to write it. The night before his first call I was so desperate for information and that was when I found the Navy for Moms site. It really helped me to read all the posts and it made me feel more connected to my son by knowing what he was going through at various times.
The other thing that I did was scrutinize the Hi Moms videos for the classes that graduated since my son started. I was able to find a picture with him in both the 12-10 and 13-10 videos! I haven't seen the 14-10 video, but it doesn't matter quite so much now because he is a candio and I know he is almost done. What is funny is that he has his cell phone now, but I have not spoken to him since Mothers Day because he is so busy! The best time for me was the academic phase because he would usually call twice a week, plus he seemed to be getting more sleep.
I see that you are in Connecticut so you are close enough to visit if you really want to see how your son is doing. I understand that you can go on Sundays and go to church with him and then visit for an hour or so afterward. I am not sure how you go about that, but I do know people who have visited. I can ask someone to get that info to you if you want.
I hope your son heals up quickly and can class up into 19-10. When you do talk to him, tell him to use any extra time he might have to study his gouge. Knowing as much as possible will help him pass RLP when the time comes. They quiz them while they are inspecting.
Good luck to you both. Kim
