We are having a Pool Party for my Daughter's going away party.  We will be serving hotdogs, chips, watermelon, sodas, water and of course cake.  The cake is going to be so cute.. It will have a mermaid wearing a sailor's hate sitting on the top layer.   Any and all party ideas will be deeply appreciated.  I am looking forward to this party with all our family and friends but also sad at the same time.  The time is drawing near for my youngest to leave ~ my nest will be empty..   But I am so proud of her and excited on the journey she has before her..

We had a huge going away party for our son. We invited his friends, family, and half the neighborhood showed up (we hang out with most of the neighbors), I asked everyone to bring a dish to pass, we played corn hole. My husband cried a lot!!! as we also have an empty nest, our SR is our only child and it was both a sad/happy time. Give lots of hugs, maybe pick up some squirt guns, water balloons, we did that, it was so hot outside, all his friends enjoyed running around with him and acting like grade school kids again. we had music going, I think food, friends, family and pool = a great time! spend time with your daughter and not worry about entertaining everyone that will be there! Everyone will have a great time regardless! It will be an exciting journey for you both, just think of all the great places you'll get to visit her at! I'd get a notebook to pass around and let everyone write a lil something for her, she can read through them the night before she leaves, then keep it til she retires! Good Luck!

My daughter leaves August 9th - so hard to believe it is so close.  A friend of hers she graduated with left last month and he graduates end of next month.  Could you tell me more about the letter writing station, sounds like a good idea.. Thanks

I decorated a box and make a slit so everyone could write him a letter and drop it in. I mailed them to him throughout BC. I also threw around throw away camera and had the guest take all the pictures. My daughter made a CD with pictures of him since he was a baby and put music to it.. Everyone said something to him on the video camera that went around the room and I gave everyone a blue candle as a favor and asked them to all burn it the day he left... I also ordered a big banner from bulidasign.com You can create your own design and its free for the military. It was a great party...

I recently had my son's party, too. We had a writing area and I will be mailing the letters one at a time during boot camp, along with my letters. I also found some of the bracelets that everyone wears. The ones I found are red and blue, and have "freedom" written on them. I gave these to all my guests and asked them to say a prayer or send him a good thought each time they look at the bracelet. I have been wearing mine daily and plan to keep wearing it throughout his boot camp. Have fun and enjoy the party.
