For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

My son (baby of the family) will be leaving soon for BC. I AM TERRIFIED! Any suggestions on all these confused feelings? Scared, Proud, don't want him to leave, but know that the opportunities are great, his contract is for nuclear eng schooling but its also for six years!

My son graduates from boot camp tomorrow. We're new to all this military stuff, so we had a lot to learn. He did his research and was very sure this was for him. We missed him like crazy, but he absolutely LOVED boot camp. He made lots of new friends and has begun his Navy journey. He'll be going to "A" school in Virginia Beach for 15 weeks then "C" school for between 5-15 weeks. He's also in for 6 years but I have a feeling he'll make a career out of it and that's just fine with me. Great benefits, gets to travel all over, major education assistance, and the opportunity to serve his country. Your son made a good choice. The first two weeks of boot camp may be challenging for him, but he just needs to stay focused, do as he's told, and keep his mouth shut and he'll be fine. You'll notice how his letters will become more and more positive. Write him a lot and I also include funny or interesting news and magazine article--sports and stuff. They don't have a clue what's going on in the outside world. He'll be fine and you will too. Go on YouTube and look up navy boot camp. It will give you both an idea of what's ahead. Good luck :)

First, edit your Blog post to include a Post Title. When you don't, the program automatically puts in the first 200 characters as the title.
Second, all of your feelings are natural, but remember that he is now an adult and has made this decision. You may want to take time over the next few days to write a brief encouraging note to your son to put in his wallet. He will be able to look at it in the days/weeks before he gets mail. You may also encourage him to write a note to you when he is on his way to the RTC and put it in his pocket or shoe for you to help you until you hear from him. When he leaves, know that you have put him in the best hands of all--those of God and the US Navy.
How soon is soon? If it is in July, join the group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in July. If it is in August, join the Group, DEP-Leavin for bootcamp in August. You will most likely meet others with loved ones leaving the same day/week who may be in the same TG and have PIR together.
You may also want to join, or at least check out,Boot Camp Mom's, PIR Reference Information, and New Members Stop Here. Be sure to join the group for his PIR date once you know that; watch for info on it in Boot Camp Mom's or at http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/groups-listed-by-pir-date..
Your future Sailor may want to join http://www.navydep.com to learn the ins and outs from the DEP point of view. Craig runs that and will steer you to some good links on there.

Now that I have joined this site, have chatted to and read other mom's thoughts and feelings the transition from being a mom with him home to a navy mom is easier. Still have 7 weeks until he leaves for bc but am at peace with his well thought out choices. Truly believe he will be fine and do well. Stay on here daily to hear others experience to help with mine. Thanks Moms!
