My son is a little over half way thru boot camp and wrote to say that he has pneumonia! Obviously I am worried sbout his health but I am also concerned about his dream of being a sailor being shattered by this illness. Has anybody else's son or daughter gotten so sick that they were put to bed for a few days? What happens from here? He says he's being put back into light duty whatever that means. His division is headed into hell week and then battle stations, as I understand it.

Yes...my son had pneumonia as well. (Sick for mnost of BC.) He had SIQ (Sick in Quarters...means in his bed ;-)) and then some LLD - Light Limited Duty as well. He made up what he had to...completed his final run and graduated on time. They really work to make sure that they finish. He sounds like he is over the worst of it if he is going LLD. Illness is common for every branch during basic training. Prayers that he recovers fully and "presses on." Hang in there momma!

Hi again! Hey, here is a group you might want to join:

Bootcamp Moms

Also, what is your sons PIR date (graduation date)? We have PIR groups for every week there is one and we can direct you to yours so you can connect up with other moms. There is info on BC and PIR on them and "veteran" moms (moms who have been through this) there to answer questions and lend support.

Actually, I'll post the Links to the ones that might be yours and all you have to do then is click the right one and join!

                   PIR: Sept 21, 2012           TG 45 - 9 Divisions (299–306 & 945)

                   PIR: Sept 14, 2012           TG 44 - 11 Divisions (289–298 & 944)

                   PIR: Sept 7, 2012             TG 43 - 11 Divisions (279–288 & 943)

The underlined are the clickable links.

Last thing is....if that is your last name in your username and it is the same as your Recruits...you will need to change it. Last names of Recruits/Sailors are not allowed on the site as per the N4M's Community Guidelines and OPSEC. If it is different from your recruits it IS allowed but not a good idea just for your own personal security. :-)

To change your username:

Go to "Settings" which is in the list in the far right hand column of this page...under where you sign out of N4M's.

Your profile page will open.

Under "Profile" …Username is the third item down.

Clear the info and type in your new username.

Once you do that make sure to click "Save" at the bottom right of the page.

My son also had pneumonia in boot camp.  He had several weeks of light duty but was released in time to complete the final run and Battle Stations.  Then he was on temporary hold (THU) for about 3 months while they ran tests and got medical approval for him to go on.  All went well and now he is in A school.  Hang in there.  They do take very good care of them.  My son grew a lot from the experience of waiting and not being in control of the situation.  God used it to help him become more of a man.

My son also got very sick during BC but never told me.  He was restricted to quarters for a few days.  I think it's from all the shots they get at once plus being exposed to germs from all over the country.  He made it through and graduated.  He felt warm to me after graduation and I think he still had a fever.
