USS Nimitz Carrier Moves Into Red Sea, But No Orders for Syria

Everyday I receive an email from the Navy through a service called gov delivery.com  Anyone can sign up for it. I don't have the link but if you google "sign up for gov delivery" I think that will lead you through it.  I usually get a photo of the day and the top news stories from around the Navy.  It has been such a great way to keep up with my sailor while he's been deployed.  I can at least get a general idea of where he's at.  I was able to follow the USS Nimitz to port in South Korea and Thailand and while they've floated out and about around the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.  This morning I woke to a picture of the NImitz in the Red Sea.  So I googled Red Sea and came across this headline from abcnews.com "USS Nimitz Carrier Moves Into Red Sea, But No Orders for Syria"  They've been ordered to "linger" in the area just in case their resources are needed.

They were recently replaced by another group a week or so ago and should have been headed back home.  I had a feeling that the activities going on in Syria were going to delay his return, but I still held out hope that maybe, just maybe, it wouldn't.  My gut feeling was right, my heart has sunk.  A friend told me that sometimes they are on a communications lock down so that the sailors are unable to send any emails to us.  This has been the primary source of communicating with my sailor and now I haven't had an email in over a week.  The last email I got from him was not a happy one.  This is his first long deployment and he's pretty tired of being on the ship.  I've done my best to encourage him, pray for him, and give him ideas of how to spend his energy to make it better.  Now... nothing.. this sucks!!!

I wonder if any other moms out there are experiencing the same with their sailors on board the Nimitz?  If so, I'm praying for us all and especially for all the sailors, soldiers, marines that are out there serving and protecting this world.

My son is aboard the USS Shoup. This also is his first long out.
I think he is experiencing a lot of the same feelings as your sailor:(
This is his 4th year in so it's decision making time. We miss him like crazy
But feel the Navy has been great for him! I hope he takes his entire experience into consideration, and not just his deployment when making his decision.

This blog has been a Godsend for us! Makes me feel closer! We continue our prayers for all of them!

mrwmom, your son has only had one long out in 4 years? Not bad! My son just completed his 2nd year, 3 more to go. He's already decide he's not going to stay in. It's made a great difference in him since he joined. Good luck to your sailor!

BR549, haha Love the name, I know what that's from! ;-)
Thanks for the prayers, it's what I've been doing... it's the only way I know how to help...

Nancy, yes, first long out. He changes his mind frequently when it comes to the topic of reenlisting. He's had a pretty kush time, I think! Your son may change his mind! I can only imagine how hard being out to sea is! And with the events going on right now!! I pray for all in service and families!!
