Happy 8th Navy Anniversary to my sailor! She reenlisted for six more. She must like it. Thank you to all my Navy Mom friends who comfort me in the hard times and rejoice with me in the good times. I guess you all are stuck with me for a few more years.

Welcome MamaLyd! You'll find lots of support and good info here. Also, as soon as you know the date be sure to join your daughter's PIR group. Hang in there and send lots of letters. They love mail call!

Spending lots of time with my girl, this is the last visit before deployment so every minute counts.

Best to all, Happy Memorial Day weekend - I hope everyone gets to hear their sailor's voice.

MamaLyd that boot camp time is hard, but it will go faster than you think.  My daughter has been in two years and has done well.  It's easy to worry when we can't be around them, but these girls do well if they want to.  I would think that you might get your first call this weekend.  Hang on to your phone!

Hello all. I'm jumping in with my first heartfelt comment. My daughter is at Bootcamp now. Yesterday made a week that she left. The only word we've heard since she then was her landing call and her box of clothes, etc. She's a strong girl, right smack in the middle of 6 brothers, but she is still only 18 and given my own limited knowledge of the military, I cannot help but have lots of questions, concerns. Especially since the entire process from enlistment to bootcamp was so fast... Anyway, thanks to Anna for the warm welcome.

Megsmom, I'd say when you book your travel is dependent on your mode of transportation.  We were able to drive so I waited to rent a car.  What I did do was book my hotel early.  Hotels are easy to change with notice.  If you can fly South West then I'd book my flight while it was cheap knowing it might have to change.

That being said - wait to do anything until you've gotten the letter with the PIR information.  That can vary and you don't want to be off by two weeks and have to book it all over.

Also, make sure you number and/or date your letters as they don't always arrive in the order in which we wrote them.  Keep your phone handy and ringer on loud, you never know when it will ring and they cannot always call back.

Our Sailors had a ruff time getting the house up to VA standards, then there was a pipe burst and flooded both stories before the loan passed and papers signed, so then going through trying to get ins. to pay for damage.....Now with him deploying and her just having the baby the house is in our way once again, she doesn't think she should leave it empty over the winter.  Our plan was to lease it out when he deployed and she'd either go with him or come home But he's gonna be stationed in VA and deploy back and for, no one knows for how long  :(  how do you lease for 2-3 months or even 8-9?  Maybe a student or someone getting new training????  We love the house, it's 5 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, fenced in back yard, in a retired military co da sac.....

Sounds like that would be best, split up for a few days.  Hoping you hear soon.

Mandrakemom,  I agree, start writing now, number pages.  Treat yourself, do something special, visit some place that was special to her, read her favorite book....I slept in her T-shirt with her stuffed dog named Pink, that she left on my bed when she left.  praying for both of you. Hugs

Thanks Anna and Blondie! While underway she's been dreaming of her favorite meals and has requested a full Thanksgiving dinner - I'm cooking holiday food in May!

MandrakeMom - getting letters means so much to them while they're in bc. Keep writing and number the envelopes. My daughter kept all the letters I sent her and I kept all of hers - we made a scrap book out of them. It was fun to re-read them together.
