bn4givn even though joining the military was something my son had always wanted to do the morning he was to leave for BC he didn't look good at all.  We took him to the recruiter's office and they left from there and spent the night in Houston.  Once he got over there and around the other recruits he started feeling better.  We also sent him with a Trac Phone so that he could call home throughout the trip and that seemed to help (I know it helped me).  They can take their cell phones and they will be shipped back in the box with their clothes but I didn't want him to take his iphone in case the box got lost.  It is a drastic change in lifestyle for them and of course the unknown can be very scary but once he gets to MEPS and gets with the other Navy recruits he will have the chance to get to know someone that is about to go through the same thing and they all are nervous I am sure.  My son said there were 6 leaving from the airport at the same time for BC and they had gone through security and were waiting for their flight and one of them left to make a phone call and never came back and the plane left without her - I guess she changed her mind.

If you feel comfortable with his recruiter you may speak to him also. I am sure that they see this alot.

Well-- it is scary to grow up. It is possible to mess up getting to stay in the navy. Hopefully once he gets there he will bond with others and try really hard to stay in. I sometimes think kids just think if they stop growing up no one will make them. Realistically there I'd nothing attractive about a 30 year old sitting at home playing video games asking their parents for money. I say this to say my son did the same thing but he loves the navy has bonded with some guys I talked to him today he is bummed about two of his friends leaving and going to other bases he is in Groton ct and he is sick of the snow. He says tho that he has already accomplished more in his life than he ever thought he would. And that is good for his self-esteem. Anyway I digress he will grow up but it is hard

I think my son is beginning to  have second thoughts about this whole thing. He leaves on the 23rd, he hasn't run in weeks, he hasn't studied the things he needs to memorize, he even forgot to call in to his recruiter yesterday! His recruiter didn't call him either though, I think everyone has their days mixed up! Any words of encouragement for him?
