OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

My son is in ship 07 division 177. I have only gotten 3 letters and one phone call :( Like you said he doesn't give much info in his letters. He does say they are always in trouble for talking to much....ha ha. I think they go to battlestations on May 18th. Two short days before graduation. Geez I hope they all make it because there really is no time to try it again before the 20th. Anyway, hopefully we will both be at the graduation on the 20th with huge smiles on our faces. I got a new letter yesterday. It always makes my week when I hear from him. On the one phone call, he didn't talk long because he had to call his girlfriend after and I guess she got most of his time. I hope battlestations goes well for them, too. My son is staying in Great Lakes for A School afterward. I am looking forward to seeing them all in their uniforms and that first hug. I will look for your smile on graduation day. Best of luck to your son too.

My son is going to A School in Great Lakes, so he won't be leaving, but does have to move immediately after graduation. He says he was told it could take up to 5 hours, so who knows. Apparently many things change at the last minute. I hope you can spend more time with your son on Friday. That's better than nothing, I suppose. Mine did tell me that their division has lost a few recruits to the hospital and they are down to 74 from 88 at the beginning. I can't imagine how hard it is. Where are you coming from? We live in Tennessee. Perhaps we will meet in the bleachers! Thanks for replying.

My son is @ Great Lakes Corpsman A School. If your son ever needs a good Christian friend or some extra help with something, maybe we could link them up! He will be graduating June 28th, so he will still be there for a good while. When my son Grad. Boot Camp, we were able to pick him up around 5pm that afternoon and he stayed with us the entire weekend. Praying that you will have a wonderful weekend with your son!

bmello, my son's PIR was 3/11 & he stayed in Great Lakes for Corpsman A School ....so he did not have to fly out. But I made a notebook with all the info. I could find online on Navy Moms just incase that changed...but I do remember some parents having a problem that their new Sailors, they had their plane tickets in their Racks back on their ship, but failed to REMEMBER to notice which Airport they would be departing from ....it's always very EARLY I have heard. Some printed out forms for their Sailor to fill out and put in their wallet with all their flight info on it (a good idea!) One set of parents had to wait until their Sailor actually got to the Airport and then was able to call them from a Pay Phone, then they had to travel to the Airport but did get there in time to spend a little time before his flight! I did read that you can hand them their cell phone/ IPod etc. then. Your son will tell you when you see him what he can have and when... They say there are atleast 3 Airports that they could be leaving from. One is North of Great Lakes, I think it's in Milwauke??? but there are two in Chicago: OHare & Midway. The week end that my son Graduated, his friend was supposed to fly out on that Sat. morning but did not fly out until Sunday mid morning! So just be prepared to be flexible. You have the right Idea about contacting The USO, I was advised to have the phone numbers already with you of each one in each airport... and you can call them ahead of time while en-route to the Airport, they could give you more info. when you know flight nos. and times, Airlines, etc. I found a map layout of O'Hare Airport on line and printed it out. It showed all the parking areas and which one to park in that's closest to your terminal that you will be leaving from, so figuring out what you could on the cell phone with the USO could save some valuable time with your Sailor! Hope you can find someone that's actually walked through this with their Sailor!
For graduation, they will have your Sailor's Ship number and Div. number printed on signs out in front of the bleachers so that you will know where to sit so you can see your Sailor! I would recommend that you get there early. They have a coffee stand with some snacks, bottled water & I think other kinds of drinks too. The stand that I went to was to the far left end of the bleachers....we got there early and had good seats, the time passed very fast, getting some coffee and walking around a little made it very manageable. It was a fantastic experience, hope you enjoy your PIR with your son and your family!!!

Will's mom, hope you are doing well today! Was wondering if you had resv. for hotel yet? If your son is staying in Great Lakes for "A" School, he may be with you for the weekend? From what I have read since on Navy Moms, it varies so much what they can do and how long they can be with you after PIR....so just be prepared! My son's PIR was 3/11....he's in Corpsman "A" School there in Great Lakes, he had to go and move in and go through orientation right after PIR, we got to spend a few minutes with him, we made photos and lots of hugs! Then, We went to Gurnee Mills Mall area for lunch and then a NAP at our hotel, he called us around 5pm to pick him up at the base.They had told him that he would NOT be able to stay overnight with us, but Praise The Lord we had a suite with an extra bed! He stayed Fri. night, Sat. night and Sunday night until about 9:45pm, the entire weekend!!! So it was great that we had made our reservation through Sunday night! We had been told he would have to be back to base by apx. 7pm, so we were going to drive until about midnight to get south of Chicago and all the Monday morning work triffic.... We could have cancelled Sunday during the day, BUT since he could stay with us so late, we stayed another night! We then had a 20hr drive home, but it was well worth it! We made it just fine! We had a wonderful weekend! I did a lot of planning on line so we had a big list of choices of where to eat and what to do!
Battle Stations are exciting, I was so on edge about it all, but they all did very well on my son's ship, they did not have any problems....they had 2 days to rest & get ready before PIR! We had been told their time would be much later and not give them but that day to rest before PIR, but it all worked out very well! So, please don't worry, they know what they are doing with these recruits! They have it down pat....note that they will tell them and you may hear one thing but then it turns out another way! That's the Navy way! You will be so proud of your son, they learn so much! They really grow up a lot and it's such a short time! hang in there!

Thanks for all the information. That helps so much. I can't wait to see him, it won't be long now. He did tell me in his last letter that he wants to nap at our hotel because he is exhausted. I think no plans from us is better and we'll play it by ear and what he wants. I really appreciate all you've shared with me.

It will all depend on when his flight is booked on Saturday, and if they can't get him out on Saturday, he will fly to Florida on Sunday. But once you find out what airport he is flying from you can also spend time with him at the airport.
I understand your husband is Navy as well, so is mine, will he be in his uniform at the Graduation? Not sure if you know it or not, but if he wears his uniform, he does not have to be on the guest list, he would just have to contact the Public Affairs office and they put the active duty people on a separate list, so that would give you an extra person for your guest list if you needed one.

Husband (my sailor's step-dad) isn't coming. We can't afford the plane fare and he can't get away from workn so just mom this time around. Maybe we can make it down south later this year for a visit together as a family. Thanks for the info though. I do wish I could have driven that way I'd have my car with my DoD sticker.
