I have a question & concern:  My SR has 4 parents that love him dearly and want to be at his Graduation, however, only 3 guests will be permitted to attend.   Two of us are his birth parents and two are Step parents.  How do we decide which of the step parents should attend?

Yikes - I know where you're coming from.  I would say flip a coin, or some other random method and hopefully that takes the pressure off of your SR.  Just because they miss the PIR - they can still celebrate the rest of their liberty with them.

That is a tough situation :/ I am so sorry you have to make this choice - I am sure that will affect other SR's as well with a similar situation. In my SR's case - only the birth parents are going and the step parents are staying home. This allows my son's grandmother to come which works for our family. If one will be upset over the other going, maybe neither should go and you can make sure to order the DVD so they can still see it. I will say a prayer for your family that it gets worked out in a way best for you! It would be horrible for your son to have to choose between them :(

Hi Joleen. I'm in the same situation with my SR. We (myself, his dad and SR) spoke briefly about it when we dropped him off at the recruiters station on the night he left. I made it clear that it was solely his decision and that now was his time to make decisions on his own. We got his form letter and, to my surprise, he chose me, his dad and his oldest sister. I am very proud of his decision and told him so in the first letter that I sent. Even though feelings were hurt, yes comments were made, we all understand that ultimately it was his choice. Yes he wants all of us there but that just can't happen. The ceremony is just "pomp and circumstance". What matters is that we are all going to GL to be there for him. To hug and to congratulate him. And ask a million questions face to face. Good luck to you.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my post.  From what his Dad has told me, he (my SR) didn't write down the names of his guests.  Perhaps our SR is hoping for a little help, from us, in deciding who to choose from.  His step-dad or step-mom.

So tough :(  Is there a sibling that could go in that place? or a grandparent?  So sorry that they both won't be able to make it! But like britefuture stated - they can both go to GL and be there and spend time with him after. Is there one step parent over the other that he spends more time with?  I know that is a tough question - I am sure he wants them both there too and obviously doesn't want to hurt anyone's feelings - would be great if one of the step parents would bow down gracefully and say the other can go so that the SR doesn't have that stress - just an idea ;)  Good luck to your family with this decision - hope it works out and everyone understands and doesn't blame anyone, its just luck of the draw :(
