My son just graduated BC and is waiting to go to Fort Lee. The rumor is he will be there about 4 weeks. Are there any other moms with sailors at this same point?

My son recently did the same. Are you asking about hold time at GL or class time at Fort Lee?

Either! the lack of communication and info for new recruits and their parents is very frustrating. I would just like to know someone else who is familiar with the goings on.

My daughter is still in Great Lakes waiting to leave for Fort Lee too.

My son was on hold in GL for 2 weeks. He was flown to Fort Lee at then end of the week & started classes the following Monday. Since it's an Army base, they do their processing at GL. The classes were 6 weeks I believe. I'll ask my son when he wakes up. As soon as those are over, they fly to their next destination, duty station, C School or other schooling.

The CS all stay at GL for at least 2 and sometimes 4 weeks until the class is ready in VA. The first week is indoc classes (a Navy necessity) followed by a lot of cleaning and standing watch. That's just the way of it. They usually are able to "earn" at least 1 step up in liberty privileges (wearing civilian clothes in public) while there. Most are bored after the 1st week, but they are learning that their lives and times are now in the hands of the military. We all have to learn that lesson. When they are ready, they will fly them to Richmond, VA (closest airport).

My son's PIR is May 8 2015. He said he will leave 6 days after PIR for VA.

I think the "tell" all of them that they will only be at Great Lakes for 1 week since that is the amount of time they MUST stay at GLNB for indoc classes. My son wasn't told an actual flight date until 1 week before they left. (PIR 7/3/14 - Fort Lee flight 8/2/14) A few do go south in 2 weeks, but there were alot waiting and they leave in order. I wouldn't bet on 1 week.

There is no set time line for the Navy. You can be told a date & then it can change either way. therevbev is right. My son did leave head to VA after 1 week but he was the ONLY one in his PIR class to do so. And that was because he's a CSS - 2nd S for submarine & they needed him sooner than the others. There are many factors that will decide when they leave, 1st and foremost is class availability. They won't head to VA until the end of the week prior to their class beginning as it's an Army base & they don't have room to hold Sailors until class begins.

My son found out he will be leaving for Ft Lee May 2nd.  He is a CSS.  He is in holding until then with odd jobs and watch.

I asked several sailors about the time CSS's have stayed at GL and they all said about 4 weeks.  My son did not receive his orders until after his PIR but they were fairly consistent with what the others said.  He will have been at GL about 3 weeks total if all goes as planned (things can always change!).

That 6 week number counts the average time at GL. The actual time in VA is just over a month usually. The classes in VA are rather small, so they have to stagger the groups since they train Army, Navy and (I think) Coast Guard.

My son has heard the same.  He is scheduled to leave May 2nd but has not received official orders.  It is always a wait and see thing isn't it?

Now he is really worried that there will be another pfa soon after he arrives.  Not sure why he is concerned since he is able to pass right now.

Our Grand-Daughter is CS, PIR  is 02/05/2016. Hav'nt  heard any rumors. D is planning to attend A school there (Great Lakes) about a month, And then to Fort Lee.
