Event Description

Navy Week is coming to Spokane from May 10th to the 16th!

To give you a little background on Navy Weeks, they are set up by the US Navy with the intent to reach out to cities all over the nation and give residents a chance to learn about the Navy. To allow people a good look into the diverse roles available in the Navy, these weeklong celebrations can include:
- Performances by the Navy Leap Frog Parachute Team and the Blue Angels
- Dive demonstrations and dive tanks
- SEAL fitness challenges
- Navy rock and ceremonial bands
- Flight and other interactive simulators
- Appearances by Admirals, divers and sailors
- Community service projects
- Events with local sporting teams
- Much more!

Vice Adm. Bruce W. Clingan, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Operations, Plans and Strategy, and Rear Adm. James A. Symonds, Commander of Navy Region Northwest,
will serve as our leading spokespeople. Also participating are Sailors with significant ties to the local area.

N4M is not sponsoring this event, but if you're interested in coordinating something special with fellow N4M members, here are some Do's and Don'ts to keep in mind :)

DO get involved with Navy Weeks.
- You are encouraged to participate in Navy Week activities when appropriate.
- If you want to get involved with the Navy coordinators, your group should appoint a "spokesperson" to coordinate with the Navy. (This will alleviate multiple calls on the same topic.). The Navy Week points of contact can be found on www.navyweek.org. Go to the schedule and click on the city that you are interest in. The point of contact for that city's Navy Week will be listed.

DO NOT independently contact the flag officers or VIP participants involved in your town's Navy Week, but do work through the appointed Navy Week points of contact listed on www.navyweek.org

So do you have a schedule or exact times and places you want me to be yet? Just want to make sure I'm not overcommitted!

What a joy to meet you ladies! :) So enjoyed the food, conversation and instant camaraderie. Also appreciated your honest input re: Navy Week. A BIG thank you too to wamom for her warm hospitality! :) See you again in less than 2 weeks! :D Hopefully I'll be much healthier then. :P

Looking forward to meeting IdahoJeep, Kanga and any others who want to join us on Sat May 15th in Spokane for a packed day full of fun Navy week activities, along with a spotlight on the N4M network, near and far! :-)

Yeah,Mo8 that won't work well. :) Thinking Sunday am wouldn't work for a few of us! Had to ask, Recruiter wanted to know. Will be talking to her tomorrow.

LOL Don't sell yourself short. You've had all the emotions and experiance of the DEP/ship out time and fresh BC Mom experiance. That counts! :)

So all- I just chatted with wamom (I know you're all going to love her), sounds like we're setting it for 11am. Brunch style. Bring something yummy to share if you can. (fruit, bagels, bake something, whatever) We're keeping it simple, don't want to make it hard for anyone who has to drive a ways. PMing you all the addy and her #. Plan on mapquesting the directions or calling wamom if you need more info and directions. Think this is going to be FUN! :-)

momof8, glad for any and all help from newbies, N4M addicts welcome! :) (takes one to know one! LOL)

Glad to hear your recruiting experiance was a positive one. The guy got my son started on his journey happened to be our neighbor and the Chief over 5 Recruiting stations in our area, so we felt pretty fortunate. He put his best man on the job. Then he was transfered to CA for the past couple of years, so I had been wondering how things were now. This Recruiter isn't Eva, but think you are all going to like her, she only deals with officer candidates though, so this is a meeting of both Navy worlds.

OK, wedding day and presentation are behind me. I can think again! LOL So, sofar, we have a home to meet in, and a date, THIS Saturday May 01. Just need some input as to time so we can finalize it and I can get the details/directions to you all before then by PM. Momof8 and I both have places we need to be by 2 pm, so I think mid morning would be best for us, anywhere between 9 and 11:30 at the latest.

Also, just to repeat: Our panel discussion event is what we really need input for. Friday night desert at 6pm OR Sunday morning, another breakfast/brunch type event?? Please weigh in.

Angie F--I was wondering if you were in Spokane! I would love to help as much as I can, pretty new to all this, my son is still in BC, but I have been addicted to this site ever since he left for information and support and it's been awesome!! I am available to meet next week...not sure how to give you my email address though, pretty computer illiterate! I'll look for your response on here and follow your directions. Hope your wedding weekend is going great!

BTW, is that young female recruiter Eva by any chance? She was my son's recruiter and she's amazing!

Everyone...from near and far(ther) please mark your calendars for Saturday Morning May 15th. VFW sponsored Armed Forces Pancake Breakfast from 9-Noon, honoring our vets and an open forum for new DEP families! The Navy would love it if some of the members of Navy For Moms were there to chat with them and share stories! Hope you can be there.:) Come for some or all. We will then be probably manning an N4Ms booth in downtown Riverfront Park all afternoon and could use help with smiles, Navy Mom hugs and info there too. :-) There will be other interactive family activities in the Park too, including the Navy Band playing. Then, in the evening, stick around for the annual Armed Forces Torchlight Parade! Come wave to and cheer for our Sailors and many others. :D A special end to the Navy Week and a fun part of Spokane's Lilac Festival. See you there!

p.s. Check out this site (it gets updated periodically) for other Navy Week activities in the greater Spokane and Idaho areas all week long: http://www.navyweek.org/spokane2010/soe.html#15May

OK folks, so who is up to meeting for some N4Ms fun and some planning on Saturday, May 01? I need a head count and place/time to meet. (WaMom are you still offering your place??) I'm thinking the South Hill or Valley would probably be central to all Spokane and N Idaho Members. Would morning (9 or 10am) or mid day (noon, 1 or 2) work best? I have something else I'd like to be at at 2, but would skip it if that mid day time works best for most. Be sure to bring any PIR pics! :D

Our panel discussion event is what we really need input for. Friday night desert at 6pm OR Sunday morning, another breakfast/brunch type event?? Please weigh in.

Please PM me your email addys and/or phone#s so that I can keep you all quickly and easily informed of any Navy Week details or changes and final meeting details. Seems we don't all pop in here or onsite regularly.
