I've made the plans and can't wait.  This will be our first Fleet anything.  Just heard from my sailor that he'll be manning the rails...I am so looking forward to this experience.

just started looking into going to SF fleetweek.  Are there any special deals of places to stay?  My sons ship will be there and I would love to see it.

 

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I live in McKinleyville, CA, and my son is a corpsman stationed now in FLA.   I am thinking about driving to SF  (6 hrs) for fleet week.  Is Saturday the best day to go?Do the Navy Moms get together?  That would be awesome.  Thank you everyone.

From last year:

On SAT: We saw the parade of ships from the end of Marina Drive (underneath the Golden Gate Bridge). We took a taxi from the Marines Memorial Hotel where we were staying.  After the parade of ships, we walk along back to Hamilton to Mason St. We were trying to get to Chrissy Field to take a bus. We never make it to Chrissy (it was too long a walk for me), so we took another taxi to the PIER 30/32 to tour the amphibious assault Makin Island. We had lunch at a little sandwich place just across the street.  After the tour we took trolley back to the Union Square area and walk back to the hotel.  There evening, 20 of us got together for dinner at the Marines Memorial Hotel.

On SUNDAY: My husband and I got up early, ate a wonderful buffet breakfast at the MM Hotel, packed, checked out and drove down to Marina Green area. We found a parking space near the Yacht Club and walk east back to Marina Green. A lot of people brought blanket and chairs - there are places for kids to play etc. The area closest to the water was sectioned off for the grandstand area. We got to the grandstand around 12:30. We had brought the Sunday edition for a bunch of papers - time went by pretty fast.
Another possibility would be to go early and find a place near the Warming Hut (983 Marine Drive). We saw people there on Sat from 9:00 AM on with picnic tables and BBQs. I don't know what the view of the Blue Angels would be but you can certainly see the parade of ships.

Please remember there is no official meet and greet as part of Fleet Week.  Everyone is pretty much on their own.

The San Francisco Bay Area Navy Families  group is having a brunch on October 9 from 11 to 2:30 down the Peninsula in Los Altos.  Here is the link to the brunch to RSVP.

Found this after I posted on SF Bay Area group. We can't afford tickets plus he will be bringing his girlfriend, so maybe we'll run into other N4Ms there. It's always a bittersweet day for us.

 

Victoria Steven's Mom: it's free unless you pay for parking, which we do at the local public middle school parking lot because it's only $10 and helps the school out.

Oh 4 sure i have to be there my son's friend Jeard is going to be there and he told me about it so i have to go would not miss it 4 the world ok see everyone there

Last year, we purchased tickets and watch the Blue Angels from Marina Green (a sectioned offed area w separate porta-potties). Tickets included lunch and free drinks. Expensive but worth it.

Hello ladies, my son Pir'd on 4/1/11 so I am a fairly new Navy Mom.  I am online trying to book our airline from TX to San Fran for fleet week.  It looks like most of the festivities are just above the Oakland / Bay bridge...I am looking for tips on whether to fly into Oakland or SF, and also best location for a hotel.  My son is looking forward to possibly stating with us and maybe getting off his ship for a few nights, so want to stay close to where they dock.  Thanks in advance for any tips!  Michelle
