Jackie, the Old Time Pottery location in Altamonte would be quite a distance from downtown Orlando (approx. 30-45 mins. away). Not sure if Lake Mary is still open-you can check on Old Time Pottery.com and find locations. However, Lake Mary is quite a distance also. I'm not the greatest with directions however, so you may want to check there anyway to get your driving schedule/path together. Look forward to meeting you on Saturday and have a safe trip!

Announcing our January Sailors!
Posted by Angie F.- WA: HM mom on December 31, 2008 at 4:01pm in Molly's ADOPT A SAILOR project
Back to Molly's ADOPT A SAILOR project Discussions
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! So, as you all know, Molly has had a rough time of it in Dec, recovering from a scary surgery! Meanwhile, we all watched and waited for mail drop day on the RMD. That happened on Christmas Eve! =) That same night, Molly sent me a PM, asking if I'd like to be the January Mom for the Adopt a Sailor Group. So, after my younger ones went off to bed Christmas night, my Sailor and I jumped on to the anysailor site and started going down the list. What a memorable time for me. I am so honored to have been asked! I'm counting on you all to help kick off our new year in a big way. :D

So glad you all indicated a desire to focus on Afghanistan, because that's what my Sailor son really wanted too. :-) He left the final details up to me. After consulting with Molly and her team, I have narrowed it down to this Group of 40 males and 15 females in Afghanistan:

19 Dec 2008:
"My unit is attached to multiple MP Companies. our living conditions are good; we live in huts and connex boxes with electricity 110. we have a free laundry service on base so we don't require any laundry type items. We have a microwave at work but no kitchen. any non perishable food would be wonderful. Also, some freezys would be nice too. I am representing my unit. We are always running short on tan t-shirts, various sizes would be wonderful. mostly medium and larges. It is getting cold where I am, so hand and foot warmers are also nice. My unit is from all over the United States. We are a unit of Individual Augmentee's."

Here's the contact name and address:

So there you have it, these are all of our Sailors, from all across the country! Watch your spelling of his last name, I keep messing up! Also specify if your package is intended for Females!

FYI: For those of you who really like to know how things work and/or are new to this Group and the Adopting a Sailor process, you can go see the "How we pick Sailors" discussion and the previous months' Groups to get a better idea.

As of the last day of Dec 2008, there were 97 Groups-listed in Dec- available to Adopt! Of those, 38 are in Iraq, 31 in Afghanistan,13 are at Sea, 5 are in Kuwait, 3 are in Dijiboti, and there are 2 each in Bahrain, Qatar and Cuba! To further narrow down our selection, I chose to look at only the 23 Afghan Groups who have female Sailors too (know how you moms like to buy girly stuff, there was one with 30 females only, tempting!), preferably more than 1-3 of them, double digits if possible. Finally, because you all did such a GREAT job responding to the needs of our Nov/Dec Sailors, we looked at larger groups of 35 or more, knowing that you Navy Moms could easily rise to the occasion and any smaller group would probably be too overwhelmed by your generosity! There were only 4 groups of 40 Sailors or more, 3 had been requested by other sponsors 20-60 times. Our Group is very new and has only been requested 8 times. So, we really have a chance to make a difference for some very special, dedicated and COLD Sailors who probably VOLUNTEERED for this mission. :-) Send a letter and/or a care package, both are sooo encouraging to them! Your love and support are needed and appreciated. God Bless you all!
