Hey, everyone. The 28th draws near---reality is beginning to hit me as my hubby readies to leave tomorrow...Thank God, this is only 3 months long. I started a group for the 16-10 class BTW-- look for it :). How is everyone else doing???

That's ok...the tears are normal. You're on a rollercoaster ride for sure. Our LOs have only been Candio for a couple of days...so far...wonderful! They get to do a lot that has been denied for the past 9 weeks...eat normal foods, have a liberty night, use their cell phones, check email...etc. But the reprieve is over when the new class (16-10) shows up...'cause now they work with them. I believe it becomes mighty intense again, but in a different way. Just so busy that we may not hear from them as often.
Your first weeks will be a testament to patience and faith. You won't hear much from your LO, but he will be craving news from home...so write, write, write...beginning now and put something in the mail everyday for him. He can receive letters, but he may not have much time to write or call the first 3 weeks or so. In that time he may only have 5 min on a Sunday if that to give you a call. Best of luck...hope you meet others in the class!
Hi FL Orange. My LO is classing up with 16-10 Hotel on Sunday. She was in 15-10 but got rolled due to injury. She's healed and ready to take a leadership role for the new class. i look forward to meeting you in mid-June. I know you're as proud of your husband as I am of my daughter. Listen to the moms here who have more experience. They really know what they are talking about. It is hard at first. Since my daughter is still technically on Day 3, we still have a long way to go. I look forward to spending the next 12 weeks sharing our hopes, etc. And like everyone has said before me, No News is Good News. Keep your chin up!
PGR, I look forward to meeting you too :) This group is definitely going to come in handy starting tomorrow..He made it to RI safely today and tonight I will definitely be praying for him on this 1st day of OCS....Good luck to your daughter too!
I woke up thinking about everyone in 16-10. Positive thoughts and prayers are being sent to everyone, candidates and LO's, who are beginning their journey through OCS on their way to becoming Officers and Officers families! Lean on each other and lean on us if you need to.
My son...Ensign McDonald... says "good luck. They are in good hands and will be fine." The next 12 weeks will be long and hard but will pass quickly and they will be Ensigns before you know it. Stay in touch with everyone on N4Ms...they will help you along the way. You will soon discover that very few people outside of here understand what you are going through. You have become part of a very elite group. Enjoy the ride...it is just beginning! Those of us from prior classes will check in with you often. Please friend me if you need anything.
Everyone has echoed my thoughts this morning, I like 2 in the service woke up and the first thought I had was the new class starting today at OCS. It has just taken me a few hours to sit down at the computer. We "priors" are here to help in any way we can. N4M's is truly a life saver and many many people would not have made it through without this site. It becomes an addiction in a good way!

Best of luck to all of your LO's!
Maybe a stupid question but what is an Ensign-- after being with my hubby for almost 5 yrs, I thought I had these abbreviations and acronyms (sp?) down pat, but OCS has thrown me a curveball...LOL
An Ensign is the lowest officer rank in the Navy. O-1. It's the starting point for all our OCs once they graduate.
Thanks! makes more sense now...
I wrote my 1st letter tonight. I hope he can read it once he gets it. I have the worst handwriting. People tell me its pretty but unreadable...LOL. How's everyone's LO's doing this week?
I type most of my letters to my daughter. I have very messy handwriting, so it's easier if I type. I tend to write letters that are in words that are still in my head and not actually on the paper yet. LOL. When I type, I can use the backspace key to fix those kinds of mistakes.
I was laughing when I read the comment about messy handwriting. I was so excited when I got a letter from my son, although having to struggle to read what he wrote. Not only slopping handwriting, he was so tired when he was writing it, I think that only made it worse! Keep writing those letters though, no matter how sloppy, etc. This is their lifeline to home and the only way they know what is going on in the outside world. For those NCAA fans letting them know who is in the final four is great conversation this week and then the winner. Even if it is over before they read it still is always welcome news.

I hope and pray you were able to get a little sleep last night, I know how difficult that is.
